Toungue A True Californian Conference
Forget a true American Conference, this is what a true Californian Conference would look like:

Cal
Fresno State
Hawai'i
San Diego State
San Jose State
Stanford
St. Mary's College
UCLA
UNLV (because Vegas is a colony of SoCal)
USC

Edit: SJSU added

I tossed in Hawai'i since recruits love games there and I couldn't find 8 football playing schools in CA (SMC is there just to bolster basketball). I would have tried a true Texan Conference but that's been done before.

And yes, this thread is a waste of space but I'm entitled to have some fun.

RE: A True Californian Conference
Or Cal, Stanford, UCLA, and USC could just kick the other 8 schools out of the Pac-12 and have a Pac-4, now that there's no minimum number of teams required for a football championship game. 03-lmfao

A new bus league is always welcome around these parts. The WCC fits that mold well, though.

A new Texas Conference:

Arkansas
Baylor
Houston
Rice
SMU
Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
TCU

I even threw in Arkansas for good measure so its not so regional, that league couldn't fail.

RE: A True Californian Conference
Before considering SMC, UNLV and Hawaii, why not include the other California school in D1-A, SJSU?

And wouldn't it make more sense to fill out a California league with upgraded D1-AA teams than by going out of state? There are three: UC Davis, Cal Poly-SLO and Sacramento State.

Personally, I would be a fan of adding UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego just for the road trips. But one would involve adding a football team from scratch and the other an entire D1 athletics department.

First of all, I was obviously being tongue in cheek (you probably noticed) and second, I'm old enough to remember the SWC. I remember the height of the Alvin Brooks era (1996) when UH finished 2nd in the SWC and beat top 5 team Memphis at Hofheinz Pavilion.

I thought I added them? In any event, this post wasn't meant to be taken too seriously.

RE: A True Californian Conference
Here's my conference of schools not literally attached to the US Mainland. And yes I had to dig into the lower divisions to grab some names for diversity:

Alaska (Fairbanks)
Alaska-Anchorage
BYU-Hawai'i
Chaminade
Columbia
Hawai'i
Hawai'i-Hilo
Hofstra
Long Island-Brooklyn
NYU
Simon Fraser
St. Francis Brooklyn
St. John's
SUNY-Stony Brook
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Wagner
