I can understand the UA loyalists not getting up in arms. Where are the Auburn folks in this? Don't they realize their taxpayer dollars are feeding UA growth? Wouldn't they love to help drive a wedge between their arch rival and the money the UA machine is so desperately dependent on UAB for? If I were an Auburn person, I would be all over this in support of UAB.

That's a good question, and a fair one. That being said, have you not noticed in your life just how few people care about, or even recognize, the big picture? It's America, people with big pockets get away with (figurative) murder on a daily basis.

Oh, and the obligatory observation that UA doesn't use any of UAB's money, directly, at least.

SACS looked into Auburn because a group of deans and professors at Auburn petitioned SACS due to Lowder's meddling into academics, not because he flew to UofL to interview Bobby Petrino.

And the UAB Faculty Senate voted a No Confidence in the UAB President over similar matters a couple of months before SACS was on campus.

Has SACS done or finished their visitation to UAT yet? I couldn't find anything online about it, but I did find UAB's and JSU's reports.

I doubt SACS would see them as "similar matters."

The persons on the Auburn BOT have more in common with the persons on the UA BOT than to you and me. They likely fear that anything that hits the UA BOT might spill over to land on them.

As for the "average guy/gal" in Alabama, he / she has little comprehension of the academic universities but rather are primarily aware of two opposing football teams that play in the "Iron Bowl" annually. That is why the respective Athletic Departments can annually reap $151 million (UA) and $113 million (AU) in "charitable contributions" while the academic side of each school must annually hike tuition and other fees just to break even.

Those Athletic Departments spend on staff salaries, support facilities and stadium upgrades so that little but "pocket change" is left for the academic schools. Two Head coaches at Bama will now be making about $11+ million per year by themselves.

Avery Johnson thanked Finis by name in his press conference, as well as the other members of the board that he had met.
