Baseball Preview: Seahawks Head To Durham For 6 P.M. Start At NCCU

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW, fresh off a sweep of UNC Asheville, visits the Durham Athletic Park on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start against NC Central as the two teams wrap up their home-and-home series.

The Seahawks improved to 21-8 with the three-game non-conference sweep of the Bulldogs at Brooks Field. UNCW opened the series with a season-high 17 runs in a game one rout, but edged UNCA in a pair of one-run games to close out the series.

UNCW and NCCU played earlier this season at Brooks Field and the Seahawks came away with a 9-3 victory to improve to 6-0 all-time against the Eagles. Luke Dunlap collected four hits and knocked in three runs as the Seahawks jumped out to an 8-1 lead after four innings.

The Eagles are second in the MEAC's Southern Division with a 9-5 mark and stand at 15-16 overall.

The Seahawks are second in the CAA standings, behind front-runner College of Charleston. UNCW ranks second to the Cougars in both batting average and earned run average. Terence Connelly leads the CAA with 33 runs scored while Steven Linkous is tied for the league-lead with 13 stolen bases.

Evan Phillips (1-1) will make his eighth start of the season for UNCW while NCCU will go with Cameron Scalzo (2-0).

0-0 in the Top of the 2nd. Dunlap just got robbed on a deep fly to left. No video but listening to audio on this one.

Still no score in the 4th. Evan Phillips pitching well, which is nice to see.

Hawks have runners on the corners with 1 out for Mims.

Mims lines out to RF, not deep enough to score Dunlap. McDowell also fails to bring anyone in. Middle 4th, still no score.

Scalf shouldn't have messed around. Now the Hawks are in a big hole.

Hawks win 3-2. We have dodged a boatload of bullets this year. Ramsey with another good appearance out of the pen.

We improve to 22-8 and # 23 in the RPI with the win. We're back home the next 4 to face NC State followed by a big 3-game CAA series against W&M.

Elon just defeated NC State 7-5 tonight. Nice top 100 RPI win for the CAA.

Florida State is 3. If we could have won that series on the road it would've been huge.

Or at least won one of those games. If my memory serves me correct, we were up in all three of them at some point during the game and even in the late innings. However, losing very close games to FSU isn't anything to hang their heads about.
