RE: Replacing UAB: Finding A New Rooting Interest
"So which team should you replace UAB with?
None of them.
You can't replace something that you truly loved.
That kind of language may sound strong, but that's what being a fan is. Every week we turn our emotions over to a team and trust in them to fight like hell for us. They influence our favorite colors, provide names for our kids, and help us get out of attending our cousin's fall wedding.
Sure, you can wear another set of colors and attend a game in a foreign stadium, but that doesn't mean you aren't still a Blazer. Maybe one day you'll grow to love that new team too, but they still won't be a replacement. There is no house divided, and no such thing as letting go.
A university is not a collection of buildings. A football team is not just the players on the field. UAB is a big part of who you are, because you are UAB. So return the favor to all of those players that gave you so much joy, and fight like hell to get the next generation on the field.
But until the Blazers come back in 2016 or beyond, don't forget to enjoy the sport that made it all possible.

Pretty much the same for me.

Same way for basketball same way for football.
Never watched college football till I came to UAB.
I don't even like basketball and only started watching UAB because my frat brothers were on the team.
Lot of nerve writing this article. Can't even make it through a season without people trying to make you move on.

I always liked colllege basketball, but didn't really get into it until attending UAB. I was a college football fan growing up and it's always been the primary sport I follow.

RE: Replacing UAB: Finding A New Rooting Interest
I loved college football, but I couldn't really stomach watching it after December. After all the mounting hype about being the first year of a new coach that proved he could win, the first year of the college football playoffs, playing Tennessee next year, and all that stuff, I was really up. Losing the team really hit my enthusiasm like a truck, and bought me really down on the sport.
All the cheating, greedy scheming, and bad stuff associated with the sport was always there, but, for me, it never overshadowed the game until the announcement. Now all I tend to see in it is that stuff.
I only started paying attention to college basketball, college soccer, and college baseball because of UAB, though.

I will go to other college football games with my son, and we will wear UAB shirts. Going to USA, FSU, Ga Tech and Oregon this year.

USA since half our team and coaches went there. That kind of counts right?

RE: Replacing UAB: Finding A New Rooting Interest
No replacement for UAB football is possible in my life.
I will still watch college football on TV, but only casually with no rooting interest.
I'll probably go fishing more.
Maybe go to some semi-pro soccer.

I'll never replace it, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't attend other games. I'm perfectly comfortable wearing my FREE UAB shirt to a Kennesaw State, GaTech, or UGA game. Hell, someone might buy be a beer for it...

My daughter will be going to JSU so I will probably attend some of their games.
Doesn't mean replacement though.

When Littler Smaug picks a college, I might pull for that team. As it is now, I don't currently have a team.
