A very complex man. Many praise him for the positive things he has done for his players. Many chide him for the negative things he has done to his players. A true Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

I enjoyed him as a color commentator. Hopefully he lands at CBS.

Sad day for basketball. He was entertaining for my ears, unlike those politically correct, androids churned out by an assembly line for mass consumption.
I'm in agreement with you, but what would you expect from a corporate multinational like Disney? Ist wir alles gut kleine kinder?

Actually, doesn't Disney own ESPN? I think they have like an 80% ownership in ESPN if I remember correctly and nothing has changed.

Duh! Yes they own them! That's my point. Have you ever been to Disney World? They even have revisionist artwork hanging in their on site lodging units. The corporate political correctness shares many many points of similarity with National Socialism. Goebbels even coined the phrase political correctness and yes violating it was a crime against the state. They were even the first to enact a Homeland Security act following the Reichstag fire (which by the way suspended civil liberties for the sake of the state). While racial purity is not in vogue these days, telling people what are acceptable beliefs and ideas is in vogue. I can think of nothing more destructive to The Constitution than the corporate multi national agenda. It attacks free speech, it owns and edits enough of our media to apply censorship with a broad brush, it violates the basic tenets of private ownership of property and enterprise, but unfortunately you almost have to be overseas watching Deutsche Welt or BBC, or even better yet Israeli news to see just how edited and glossed our version of the news has become. It was cathartic abroad to hear people who ignorantly and/or articulately discussed subjects that are simply now taboo here. It reminded me of the kinds of freedom and "actual" tolerance we once had here. The news today is like the second coming of Tass, only there was something quaint about watching 10 minutes of footage on coal production, whereas 10 minutes of watching an appropriately integrated group all express the same mantra of social concern is not.
I think the point my Army friend made was that Bob Knight's lack of caring about the sensitivities of easily hurt people was damned refreshing. But now that Bobby Knight is gone Charles Barkley had better watch out. He tweaks some noses as well. Minority status will preserve him for a while, but eventually he'll go and will be replaced by someone who has no discernible ethnicity regardless of the hue of their skin or the region of the country from whence they came. I say bring back Max Headroom. He at least had enough technical flaws to be entertaining in his homogenized blandness.
If I thought you were a fan of silent films I'd tell you to watch Metropolis, or if you were into early 20th century novellas to read Thomas Mann's "Death in Venice" and "Mario and the Magician", or Hesse's "Steppenwolf" or "Beneath the Wheel". All of them talk about the death of the individual in a world controlled by the politics of corporations and the puppets they put in power to do their bidding. This generation could do with a stout dose of those views to hopefully awaken them from the new goosestep.

The only difference between Mike Rice and Bobby Knight is 700 wins and three national championships.

RE: Bob Knight's Contract Not Renewed
As a coach, Knight's antics never really bothered me, and IMO, considering the ratio of talent recruited* to results produced, he's arguably the most talented coach in basketball history. Nobody ever won so much with so little. I mean, the 1984 NCAA tournament game between North Carolina and Indiana is an exhibit.
But as an analyst I always found him lacking. He was flat and boring, and always looked kind of pissed off.
In contrast, I found Jim Calhoun to be really refreshing and most important, accurate, this past season.
Calhoun analyzes like an ex-coach with (a) loads of championship experience, which he has, and (b) no thought of ever coaching again, and thus no felt need to hedge his commentary, either to avoid stepping on toes of people he might want to work for, or to divulge "secrets of his success" that other coaches might copy.
* Yes, I know this is part of a coach's job, and Knight wasn't good at it.

At least Knight made sense. Barkley isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Huge difference: Knight tweaked noses while being boring, which meant lots of downside and little upside. Barkley tweaks noses while being entertaining as all get-out. He's one of the hottest properties in sports commentary. He has no job security worries whatsoever.

I would agree. They have even expanded the "Barkley Brand" into College Basketball.
