I agree ... not a huge deal, but a irritant. And, once again, this isn't the first time he's done it. What is the upside for the university or program in doing it now ? Why go on and on ?

Stuck overly critical =metal chi. Highly irritable and frustrated=wood chi. Worriers and meddlers= earth chi

Pastner saying it that way does show a lack of knowing the fan base's pulse.

Pastner-"So, why don't you want to come play with us at Memphis?"
Four Star Recruit-"Cause I want to go play with the best and I saw in an interview you did that even you thought Cal was the best, so I'm gonna take my game to Kentucky"
Pastner-"Oh, well he is a Hall of Famer, and the team is always well coached, and I did say he's the best, gosh darn it, there goes another one"

I'm on the record questioning Pastner's ability to communicate effectively. Still, when somebody questions him about Calipari's recruiting skills, had Pastner said anything other than "He's just the best," then I'd have to wonder about his sanity. When it comes to recruiting, saying Cal is the best is like saying water is wet and the sun is hot.

Nevah burn your bridges outta town. Besides, there was this other
silly article asking different head coaches who would you like to live with....or something like that.

And Pastner said Cal.

I happen to agree with Pastner. Calipari is the best. Unlike Pastner, I wouldn't publicly gush over him (and by extension UK) on a radio broadcast, even if I had the opportunity to do it. As the head coach of Memphis, I'd want to kick his arse rather than kiss it. On air. And on the record.

A fan base that has mocked and ridiculed him the past year and sent crap to his wife I think he knows the pulse very well.

THAT BEING SAID, I agree with 80s...why does OUR coach (knowing the landscape) feel the need to go on & on about how great he is. Why not keep it short, respectful, etc. and move on.

I don't "hate" Cal. He did a lot for the program and Tiger basketball was really fun for a 4 year span...I wouldn't trade those days for anything! BUT he left in a BAD way and Josh of all people should know that - at the very least he should know that's how MOST of Tiger Nation feels.

I get showing respect for your "mentor" in the public arena, but Josh's constant need to go overboard has grown old - especially when it comes to Cal.

Well put

Can't sing with a guitar in your mouth unless you're Jimi.

Jimi and I had something in common. We both burned up equipment. My doing so was when I would forget my cigarette in the ashtray on top of my amp. Used to be very forgetful at times, but I can't remember why.

Agree. I don't personally like Calipari but Pastner saying that he's the best college BB coach is just telling the truth. Calipari is not the best X's and O's or game-time coach, but his recruiting prowess (shady or not) and salesmanship capabilities overcome any weaknesses in actual coaching ability. On balance, he is the best coach out there right now, as his UK teams have had the best overall results of any college team since he arrived there.

I don't know if he IS the best... or just backed by the best.

Same thing, come to think of it.
