Swinney Named Deputy A.D. For Seahawks

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Adrianne Swinney has been named Deputy Athletic Director at UNCW, Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass announced Wednesday.

Swinney joined the Seahawk program in April of 2014. She serves as the Senior Woman Administrator for the department and is the primary sport administrator for women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country and track and field, and volleyball.

"Adrianne is a tremendous asset for the UNCW athletic family," said Bass. "She keeps student-athlete welfare at the center of her work. We are pleased to expand her responsibilities."

Swinney is heavily involved in the planning and direction of the program, with responsibility for ensuring Title IX compliance, completing and maintaining UNCW, Colonial Athletic Association and NCAA reports, overseeing all student-athlete support services areas (Compliance, Academics, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Medicine), and directing the NCAA/UNCW Drug Testing program. In addition, she serves as the principal liaison to the Faculty Athletic Council.

Swinney interacts with several departments and organizations on campus and is active nationally. She is an active member of the CAA Competition Committee and the National Association of Collegiate Woman Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Education and Professional Development Committee. In addition, she maintains her licensure and certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer.

A 2000 graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, Swinney has a Master's of Arts Degree in Management from Dallas Baptist University and is pursuing her doctoral degree in higher education at Jackson State University. She is a graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute (2012) and the NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement (2013).
