I hope he did a lot more than the video shows. Not much of a slap on the butt. While, he may be a drunk and a ass, I can't believe he was fired. Suspended, fined and some punishment but fired seems extreme. The women who's butt he touches doesn't seem surprised or outraged.

You must not have read the Deadspin article that included the term letter, detailing all the reasons why he was termed. It was for more than just touching that one lady's butt.

If he's slapping women on the butt I'm pretty sure he was breaking a law.

Didn't get arrested though. That was my point, why did they call officials or news or somebody to talk about what he did vs. pressing charges? Not even sure slapping someone on the butt is against the law - probably depends on other facts (unwanted, sexual assault premise, etc.)

Yeh, don't think I said that in my comment. I just said there has to be more to it if he wasn't arrested for whatever he did. Being offensive to some women in a bar would get a lot of guys thrown in jail if it were illegal. Just saw comments he slapped a woman on the butt - which must have been what prompted her to slap him and then to get bounced. I'd have to go with the other comment about this being a pattern of behavior to end up in a dismissal for that. BG is going to now have to be careful how they handle future incidents if there is not a documented pattern of this behavior. You cannot be selective in how you dole out punishment for the same issues. Well you can, but you open yourself up for a lawsuit - which is why they have releases signed in order to get a severance package.

Just looked at the video - which was nothing much and the woman did not seem at all upset. But the letter that terminated him and the email sent shows the reason why he was fired pretty clearly. All coaches, professional athletes and many others have those terms in an employment contract. I see them all the time. Given that he was terminated for cause, he will not get severance, but I would expect also that he will get an attorney and dispute the claims made in the term letter as to what he admitted to. I would hope that AD was smart enough to have someone else in the room with him - or got it in writing. He can deny what was stated in the letter. If he was drunk and admitted to the behavior that was put in front of him - he's a fool. He should have kept his mouth shut and just said he didn't remember anything about it. On the other hand - it's still a good thing they got this a$$hole out of the University if that's the way he acts. I have NO respect for someone like that. They did the right thing - and he is still a fool in so many ways.

REALLY? A video of your obliterated coach patting women's butts? Almost getting in fights? Calling a college student "*****" in fromt of her family? Having said info all over national media? I suspect there was a pattern of the drinking at least but this is plenty to fire a guy making 1/4 mill and in the public eye.

don't comment without following the links to the letters and emails. even if it was just this one night that he was a drunken, sexist, ass grabbing, ***** and ho calling, bar fighting, sloppy bastard you'd be hard pressed to think he was the face of your 2nd largest athletic program. the indication is that this was his spot and that was more like his norm. did a pretty good job with an average roster last season. bg will find someone interested. they are a 20 win team in a new arena in good mid major recruiting grounds, even if they are sh*t brown bg. they'll get some candidates.

The story keeps getting some additional flair to it.

I also pretty much feel that even this one instance stands on it's own merits for firing. Given the misogynist nature of his actions, I wouldn't put it into the category that would give the University position to even consider second chance. Even though he was forthcoming, they were being polite in not packing his bags for him and setting them out the door.


He should have resigned.

The Former Toledo Blade did it again...they didn't redact the name of the guy who was email BG's AD. Every other media outlet I read did redact his name, except for the Former Toledo Blade.

BG made the e-mails available after saying it was a private personnel matter. Names were redacted but they left in information that could be used to easily ID the family (the Purdue football connection). Much as I'd like to blame the Blade, they weren't alone.

My point is why not release the name? I already knew the name from the E-mail. Allegedly the family wasn't bashful in posting about this on social media . Those factors may have played into the decision.

heard a rumor linked to the BG coach that - if true - may mean this is not the end of the story. Charges could be coming - but not against Jans....being obnoxious doesn't get you arrested, starting an altercation just might.
