RE: MLB 2015 season thread
AL East Yankees
AL Central Tigers
AL West Mariners
AL Wild Card Angels, Red Sox

NL East Nationals
NL Central Cardinals
NL West Dodgers
NL Wild Card Padres, Mets

AL Pennant Yankees
NL Pennant Dodgers
World Series Champion Dodgers

The AL as a whole is wide open. All with at least three teams I see with a legitimate possibility of winning their divisions.

The AL Central is just going to be crazy I think. We had 4 people picking, and 4 different champions. Really only the Twins don't have a chance.

Shedding Upton's salary means nothing if you're not going to spend it. That's the only question I have.

I would like to pick my Pirates to win the Central, but the Cardinals will find a way to keep it. They always do.

RE: MLB 2015 season thread
wow just saw this:
An MLB record 115 players are starting Opening Day on the DL, up from last year's 101, which was also a record. Oakland and Texas each have eight players on the DL, and the Twins were the only team with none.

I wonder how many of those are Tommy John surgeries. The biggest problem has been the rise of TJ and how to prevent so many TJ surgeries.

I think you are right... It was the right deal. Giving up our only all star to also deal Melvin is a kick to the nuts though. I'm happy Quentin has been designated because, aside from Bryce Harper, he is probably the most hated player in the league by Braves fans. So that part of the deal was also a kick to the nuts.

Yes ... I have suffered greatly with the Chicago Cubs, UConn football, and SMU football.

Maybe I'll be rewarded in the afterlife.

Could be something to watch with the Giants:
The Giants received a double dose of not-so-good news today, sending Matt Cain for an MRI (right forearm tightness) and scratching Jake Peavy (back tightness) for Tuesday's start. Cain and the Giants are waiting for doctors to review the tests before ruling the righty out for Wednesday's start.

Will definitely be TJ. When you're a thunder fan you get used to this kind of thing. It no longer fazes me

Ownership hasn't carried over previous years' savings (based on reported $$$ limits) before and I don't see it happening now.

The only way it makes sense is if the Pads weren't giving the asking price for Kimbrel, so they had to use BJ to lower the overall price.

actually doesn't look like it:
The Giants P has a flexor tendon strain and will likely miss his first start of the season. An MRI revealed Cain doesn't have ligament damage, however, and it's "more like a two-week thing," manager Bruce Bochy said Monday.

RE: MLB 2015 season thread
I'm not as down on the Braves as many seem to be. Ecstatic they got rid of BJ Upton and his dumb contract. Kimbrel is very good, but closers can be replaced, and the Braves developed him and others, they can find someone else to do the job and they will develop another great young closer.

And whaddaya know, Braves played small ball and won their opener 2-1 with Jason Grilli striking out 2 and picking up the save in the ninth. Johnson had a great setup inning as well. Markakis, much-maligned, but he drove in both Braves runs. Nice to see some contact and situational hitters. Both Braves runs were scored by their lead-off and #2 hitters; Eric Young and Jace Peterson 9came from Pads in Just. Upton trade).

That game was fun to watch, and no BJ looming to screw it up either!! These Braves may not be the home run hitting powerhouse, but they will probably not strikeout like the teams have the past few years, and Whitey Herzog proved you can win at small ball if you are consistent.

Braves have made a good start to restocking their minor leagues, need to have a few good drafts with 5 of the first 75 picks this year, and then can get a hitter or two to go along with a more fundamentally sound team that can do more than just a wildcard cameo in the future. Go Braves, John Hart and Coppy! 161 more to go! And I'll root for the Cubbies this season as well while the Braves redevelop their team.

Cubs get a rainout today. Very good for them as now only 8 games they play w/o Bryant.
