If UAB stays in CUSA, we will not be getting any of the football money.
Sure I can. That would be a primary reason to stay in C-USA and play football.
So UAB is getting football back. Great!!! No need to be talking about the MVC.

The amount of slowness on this board can be maddening at times.

Except we wouldn't be kicked out. We would have voluntarily left the conference because we voluntarily violated the football requirement bylaw - we would have broken the "contract". UAB would be at fault, not CUSA.
Understood, however contractually we then would not even be entitled to the money we just made in the NCAA tournament. CUSA has decided to not kick us out for a few months at least. Let's take the opportunity to try and right the ship.

Since the 2014-2015 school year ends 6/30/15, there is no need for C-USA to hurry its decision on UAB just because of our discomfort with the wait. That's our problem, not theirs. Regarding the money from the NCAA tournament, when does the NCAA pay that money out to the conferences? That could have a bearing on whether UAB gets all it earned and if / when it gets it. Add these things to the growing list of things important to UAB that will not be decided by UAB people.

I don't believe it is automatic payment right now. It may be deferred payment down the line.
Contractually we have already broken the contract by disbanding football & CUSA not scheduling us for any games this fall.

I would guess it would be Montgomery that I was mentioning.

Montgomery and our representatives is what we should be concentrating on, not arguing about a conference who has not invited us and probably won't.

This won't make for fun road trips & travel expenses will be greater. Although, I'm sure hotel rooms in Terre Haute, Normal, and Carbondale are much cheaper than Miami, Boca Raton, and San Antonio.

So go to the A-SUN since travel is better?

We haven't been invited anywhere yet but it's ignorant to shut down future conference discussion as being un-loyal to UAB football. It's possible to fight for UAB football and still discuss and support the future of UAB basketball.

I hear ya MB I hear ya. That said I disagree jumping ship right now. If several things in the works does not pan out over the next several months then yea you find the best landing place and start over again if it is even possible because if certain folks have their way they are not stopping with athletic programs. This is more than about football.
It's one thing to have a discussion about it and it's another to stir the pot and tell everyone they are basically wasting their time which "someone" is doing when people are fighting their guts out for this program.
Does anyone have anything substantial on the undergrad programs or is this all conjecture?

That's why it's important to keep hammering away in Montgomery. There's a generational type opportunity right before us we'll likely not see again. We've got a good start and the MVC rumors and some of the other recent DC articles show that they're playing defense.

A conference gets $1.6 Million for every game one of its teams plays in the NCAA tournament. (UAB earned the C-USA $3.6 Million this year.) That money is paid out in 5 equal annual installments to the conference and the conference decides (based on its by laws) how the money is distributed.
In smaller conferences, especially those who don't sponsor football teams, most of the the money is used by the conference for its administration - salaries, office costs, travel, etc. - because is one only sources of income. Richer conferences, especially those who have football, earn more money from other sources (TV, bowl games, etc.) so the tournament money is mostly distributed to the member universities every year.

From page 2 of that MVC thread, as they talk about Tulsa as preferable to UAB, but it still applies:
Wufan wrote:Tulsa was a very good program in the MVC for many, many years.
Tulsa's a pipe dream. That's an impossible add.
1. The AAC's TV contract isn't huge, but they're not going to give up that TV contract for a conference with no TV revenue.
