And yes, that's the UAB team we beat at home.

Big win for CUSA.

I expect Bryant and the Bama trustees are already claiming this as a victory for the University of Alabama.

But what a great job by UAB.

I've known Paul Jr. since high school. He's not half the man his daddy was. He's had more than his share of shady dealings with dog tracks and other misadventures, and I think his daddy's name is all that has saved him several times.

I'm about 99.9% certain that Bear would never have pulled a stunt like the UAB football deal. And he wouldn't have thought very highly of anyone who did.

Wow - huge!
I thought that was about the LEAST likely upset to happen.

I believe this win means at least $250K per year for the conference over 6 years. So over $100K for Rice assuming money is divided equally.

And so unless Kentucky wins, when it is all over, we will be about 4 degrees from being the national champion (we beat UAB; who beat Iowa State; who beat Kansas; who beat...)

This could be a very valuable perspective. You should do an interview and tell everyone about his shady dealings. I'm sure I speak for all UAB fans when I say we would :csnbbs:you.

I get my information from the Birmingham News and AI.com. I'm not aware that his shenanigans have not been well documented.

You could probably go down to Greene County and talk to the folks around Eutaw about the goings on at GreeneTrack.

LET'S GO, UAB!! Up on UCLA early in the first, 12-9. One of these state school branches has a slightly more storied history than the other. Time to take down the Bruins for good ol' Conference USA. I don't believe I've ever rooted this hard for UAB before.

I've gotta wonder if the Rice team is watching this game right now together somewhere on campus, thinking that they beat UAB and aren't that far from all eyes on the nation watching them square off with UCLA for a trip to the Sweet Sixteen. Next year, Owls. Next year! In Rhoades we trust.

Didn't Gene Bartow once coach both teams? Go Blazers.

No clue who that is. But it certainly sounds like a paunchy middle-aged white guy with a comb-over and a tweed jacket who's willing to sleep under his desk and survive on Marlboros and Little Debbies, so I'll say "yes."

Man, I lead with my most in depth insight...that is all the college basketball knowledge I have (Let's see Penders, Lemon, Sutton, Bartow, Wooden - yup, that is it). Note to self, investigate this Bartow diet. Go Blazers. #notwatchingmarchmadness

For those not watching the game (and I assume you've seen it), TV mentioned that Bartow succeeded John Wooden at UCLA for two years, and then founded the UAB basketball program, who play at Bartow arena.

UAB falls to UCLA, 92-75. Nice effort, Blazers. Way to make the conference proud with your first-round stunner. Kudos.

I was certain about Memphis State and UAB, and was uncertain about UCLA.
