RE: Jack's Bills Introduced
I'm curious why the bills have decreasing numbers of co-sponsors... But hey, lets get another miracle.

Found my Rep and he co-signed all three. My work, or annoying him, paid off. That's a North Alabama rep on our side.

The Etowah delegation?

Yes,

I can say now that they wrote letters to me telling me how they supported the bills and would co sponsor. I kept that quiet for obvious reasons.

Yes I had contact with two, one demo, one rep but I never heard from the other two and one of them represents my district. Needless to say they will not get my vote again. They could have at least answered my e-mail even if it was just to let me know they were aware.

RE: Jack's Bills Introduced
Co-sponsors are nice, but that means little when it comes to voting time. And with the way our system works in Montgomery, these bills could die in committee, if the right people are against them.

My thoughts are:

Bill #339 should get legs because it's all about accountability and making sure we're trained to do the right thing. You can make this one "warm and fuzzy" and one easy to support. I think it passes.

Bill #340 is going to have tough sledding because it 1) seeks to knock the legs out from under some pretty powerful people (who also
$upport most of the pols debating this bill) and I doubt the power brokers are gonna read this bill and say "hey, Jack has some good points here, I do have too much power." and 2) has so many hoops to jump through before becoming a law that it's gonna look like an expensive option for control over people we really can't control. I hope I'm wrong, but I look for #340 to die in committee. If it gets out of committee, those speaking for it will be few and far between.

Bill #341 is about control or restricting university choices (by requiring UAB to play football) and that's gonna be a hard sell. Don't think those who are in UA, AU, Troy, USA, or any other state university's corner are gonna get a warm and fuzzy over this one. The other university's could say "I don't want the State dictating how I run my school's athletic program" and make this bill toxic. I look for some supporters of the BOT to make this about money and bring up financial losses of UAB football/being good stewards of taxpayer's money/blah, blah, blah. Again, I hope I'm wrong but I think this one will die in committee as well.

RE: Jack's Bills Introduced
Jack Williams has put 41 of 105 state representatives on the record opposing the Board of Trustees: the old, Machine-connected power structure of the state of Alabama. Nothing like this has ever happened. Ever. Through the Civil Rights era, through the New South era, through the days of Reagan and Clinton and Obama, they stood their ground against every wave of social and political change, yielding not one inch of ground, only swapping party labels that meant nothing to them anyway.

The windmill just shuddered. Don Quixote has wounded the monster.

It may not happen overnight, but it is going to happen. We will never back away, and we will win. We fight.

Jack was able to speak briefly about his bills and the moderator added some info about them tonight (3/20) on "Capitol Journal" on PBS (CH !0 in B'ham) at 8:00.

If any of this were easy it would have been done a long time ago. Might as well be now and might as well be us

If not now, when? If not us, who?

I want changes on that damned cesspit of corruption that claims to have the good of all three campuses in mind. I'm going to fight for it.

Anyone have a link to the bills themselves? The google hasn't been as helpful as I'd have hoped.

That is a list of all bills filed by Williams. Down at the bottom, click the bill number. Then click "Introduced" on the next page. As it moves forward, different versions will appear there, such as if it gets modified in committee, etc.

My guy's a co-sponsor on all of them but 341. I may need to reach out to the right honorable Mr. Treadaway for an explanation.

Treadaway is my House Rep also. Since I cannot view the pdf on chrome for some reason, what is HB341?

In some cases, people have elected not to cosponsor a bill because they would have to recuse themselves when it was voted on.

Check your pop up blocker.

341 requires UAB field an FBS football team.

Yep. The pop up blocker had it.

This is a very basic bill stating football to be reinstated or that we should have it if Alabama has it.

Is Treadaway on the committee that would vote on it? That would be the 1st question.

I have had correspondence with him on issues with the BOT & he has seemed receptive.

Not saying he would definitely vote for this bill, but it would be interesting to get his opinion on it.

Neither do I. With no recall and him in his final term, he has nothing to lose by running interference for his lord and master by vetoing any of Jack's bills. I hope I am dead wrong about, but he's made it pretty clear whose side he's backing.

A veto in this state is worthless unless it happens in the last few days of the session. The governor isn't much more than a figurehead here. A skinny, pointy-nosed, beady-eyed, weasel-looking figurehead.
