RE: Spring Practice Updates
I think our run game is going to be surprisingly strong this season. You've got Lawry bulking up and getting another offseason of training in, and then there's the stable of hungry newcomers who will likely make every rep count to prove themselves. Add in the tight ends as extra blockers (and occasional receivers) and we've got a well-protected QB that can make plays when opposing defenses play to stop the run. First time we've had a shifty offense in years, I reckon.

RE: Spring Practice Updates
Im a bit more skeptical. Lawry is an amazing back, but a lot of our success last year was because teams were afraid to keep more than 6 in the box bc of the offensive design/great QB play. If we don't have that threat (and we have newcomers at QB who teams will not respect at first) then teams are going to be more willing to put 7-8 in the box....especially if we have a TE in the game.

But if they stack the box, it should make whoever wins the QB battle job easier. You stack the box, we throw it over the top. You back up into pass coverage, Lawry runs wild. As long as our passing game remains efficient, defenses will need to play honest. Otherwise they risk getting exploited.

Certainly. But, we do have huge question marks at QB next simply because they haven't played a down. Im encourage for sure

RE: Spring Practice Updates
I will be there. Can't wait to see how the O-line is looking. I remember being excited when Matiarena was signed. I hope he really steps it up this year and gives us some help. I wish Burns would lose about 35 or 40 pounds. It would really help his quickness. Obviously it will be fun to watch Bentley and Verhaegh. I think we may well have the best set of receivers in the conference this year. I'm anxious to see Blair Roberts back at it again, and I am real curious as to how much we will see the tight end sets and how they help Lawry and the running game.

On defense, I think we will be strong on the D-line this year with a lot of experience coming back plus Ximines (can't wait to see this guy) and Appouh to help out Barnwell and Reid on the ends. At safety, I hope and expect to see Byrum and Misher put in good performances. I also am looking forward to seeing UAB transfer Devon Brown. I hope he continues to impress and strengthen the CB position. We have some proven performers coming back at linebacker but I am anxious to see if some new guys can step up this year there (Jeffries & Wilder?). Overall, Guys and gals,I just really believe this defensive group is going to be an asset this year.

Not sure how special teams are going to be this year and don't know if Segers is going to be ready to go this spring. We need him to come back strong and healthy.

Looking forward to it!

I went to the first one last year, it was freezing. Like 20 people there. What I picked up on was how impressive Darius Garcia looked as a true freshman. He went on to start the bulk of the season at RT.

Bentley just ripped a 60yd pass from his 1yd line to Pascal to start a TD drive. The kid is money

OX has a sacked. A DB with Taylor's jersey has a great intercepting and run back, only to be tackled by the QB...for shame.

Was it Aquante Thorton, former WR from Indian River?

#27 Simmons is running the ball very well, along with Ray.

Washington after a nice catch got hit hasn't come back, was very slow to get up.

#98 & 99 the OX and A team look solid.

We are loaded at running back, lots of skill recievers. Think the only drop balls were RBs.

Usally the Spring Game the D is ahead, think O is ahead right now.

Which running backs behind Lawry looked good?

Which players (other positions) stood out in particular?

RE: Spring Practice Updates
1. We don't have any worries at QB. Bentley was outstanding.

2. Lawry looked pretty much like his old self, and Brandon Simmons had some really good runs.

3. For the most part, Ziffer looked OK, but he missed some he should have made.

4. Punting was dismal. We have to find a punter. I think we will see BW using SB much the same way he did TH, but Bentley did not punt any today.

5. Normally, you expect the defense to be ahead of the offense at this stage, but the offense with SB at QB moved the ball consistently. He was really sharp today.

6. The interception by Thornton was a nice play with a good return, although he was eventually tackled by LaRussa.

7. It was flat out cold out there. I am sure it was below freezing with wind chill. I live in Western Branch, and it was snowing when I got home!

8. Though the first team offense moved the ball consistently, there was some really good hitting from the defense. Overall, I came away pretty excited about this team.
