2015-2016 Men's Basketball OOC Scheduling
This might need a sticky. What is currently written in stone? What is that site that comes up from time to time where various coaches post that they are looking for games? As far as I know, the following are written in stone.

GMU
@VCU
@W&M

Likely series renewal

@Richmond

Potential series renewal

@UNCW
@Georgia State

Due to the lack of home games, maybe we don't renew UNCW and/or fGSU?

Seems if they renew all of those, they will need to get a couple to come here first. We have got to balance this out somehow. I would like to keep all of those teams, but we can't keep them all being home/away the same years.

I'd like to drop Georgia State (the wheels are going to start to fall off next year), renew UNCW to start at the Ted, add a H/H with another close A10/AAC team (St. Joe's, LaSalle, GW, ECU, Temple) and play a P5/Big East team on the road. This should still be able to give us room for 2 guarantee games at the Ted.

Yes, we are playing in Connecticut in a bracket that includes Florida and Perdue. Don't have a link, but saw it yesterday.

The Hall of Fame Tip-Off. St. Joes will also be in the tournament;

And it's Purdue. Perdue sells chicken.

We should get two home games from this Hall of Fame tournament against 2 of these 4 schools - Buffalo, Niagara, N.C. A&T and Vermont. I would guess that Buffalo and Niagara would be the two schools since they have players on those rosters with local connections. Buffalo could be a good RPI team to have on the schedule too.

I don't think so, unless it recently went private. You didn't have to register to view the site I remember.

I've always wondered about tournaments like these, but those two home games, say we lose both of them, we still play in CT right? What do the other 4 schools get out of joining? Just the chance to play bigger schools on the road?

Basically that is correct and I think there is some guarantee money involved. They also go to Conn. and play a 4 team tournament amongst themselves at the same time ODU, St. Joe, Purdue and Florida are doing their 4 team tournament. And finally, playing in an exempt tournament only counts as one game toward your total game allotment allowed by the NCAA. (Of course, you are only allowed one exempt tournament.)

With all the recent discussion about OOC SOS and what that means to tourney hopes, I don't much like the idea of playing cupcakes. If you aren't good enough to beat some good mid majors and maybe one or two lower p-5's, why bother. Our conference SOS will drag us down, we need all the best OOC games we can get.

Our SOS this year was fine. We just didn't perform well enough away from the Ted to seal the deal.

GW would be a good scheduling option. Manageable drive, A10 makes them a likely RPI employee if we beat them, and they are hopefully getting better since this is their second 20+ win season in a row.

I agree with Old Dominion. We need a strong OOCS. The conference schedule is atrocious and is not likely to get much better anytime soon. Hopefully, over time we somehow find a way to replace the bottom 4 teams or so in the conference with higher quality programs. I understand that this is not easily done since it involves finding programs that are attractive in BOTH basketball and football as well as our minor sports and women's basketball as well as walking that financial tight wire wrt exit fees that teams must pay when leaving the conference. I think that Charlotte will develop in time and I'd like to keep UAB in conference for basketball. I know that this is not popular with some, and rightfully so, however based on upcoming shifts in the athletics landscape we may not have them as conference mates much longer. Perhaps a silver lining with the loss of UAB football is that UAB basketball leaves CUSA and ODU is able to sign a home and away agreement with UAB (e.g. 2 games per year) which would give us a bump up in the strength of our OOCS. And we simply have to improve our performance against the weaker conference teams...we did it to ourselves this year.

Not sure if possible, but I'd like to renew something with Georgetown. Also want to see some ACC schools down the line. Basically sprinkle one or two in over next couple seasons. But maybe that's crazy talk? ...anyways, I enjoyed last years schedule and think we are on the right track. Just please no more games with Maryland Eastern Shore. Nothing against them, but that's one game that we could beef up vs someone else.

We are going to get a home game or two against UMES/NCA&T/Mt St Marys every year. Lets just hope it is less than 3 going forward.

Frankly we are going to have to go on the road and play some ACC and Big East schools. They aren't going to come here until we establish ourselves as a top 25 type program. Our home and home only approach is just not realistic in basketball today. We do, however, need to schedule more solid A10 home and away. It may be hard, but it is somebody's job and they need to get it done.

If UAB leaves we need to grab a H/H with them immediately. GW makes a lot of sense as well and what about Miami?
