Liberty WBB vs. UNC
Congrats to the success and excellence to the women's basketball team. LU gets a 13th seeding for Sat game. The stronger OOC payed off with the higher seeding. Good luck to the team and may their example of success spread to the other sports at LU. They've set a high bar with their Big South dominance and is time to go beyond our weak conference success and deeper into the tourney.

Tough draw to play a perennial power of the strength of UNC. But that will make a bigger statement should we win. Go ladies!

They are also in the draw with South Carolina. I'll be traveling but it would be fun to see them play closer to home than in the past. Now would that be something if LU beat UNC and JMU beat Ohio. JMU couldn't hide from playing us then. That would be a #12 playing a #13.

RE: Liberty WBB vs. UNC
I know men's sports is much more popular then woman's but I'm surprised by the almost complete lack of interest in the LU/UNC game. No buzz at all. What gives? JMU plays Ohio St in the same draw and that winner will pay our winner. Two potentially high quality games less than a 3 hour drive.

Checked the JMU board and they've got car pools, ticket sales, meetings planned and game apparel going. Zip on this board. A fat zero. Have we become complacent with our 16 tourney bids and 14 first round losses? Ironically we've duplicated our highest seed and have a chance against #4 seed UNC, unlike past years when we suffered 30 and 40+ point losses to #1 seeds. I admire the JMU support and wish we had similar expressed support for the Lady Flames. JMU has definitely bested us on this one so far.

RE: Liberty WBB vs. UNC
Well there are many more JMU "regulars" than there are Liberty on the boards and our thread was open for exactly one day. That's probably why there hasn't been more "buzz." We didn't get much traffic here yesterday so give it a day or two or check out other Liberty websites.

A few of us began posting here on CSNbbs in December. Granted we have many fewer posters than most other boards as we are a newbie. FN has a large following due to it's content and longevity. It serves a good purpose. I view it on occasion. I simply find the interaction among other members from other teams and conferences in this bbs a more appealing format. I wish FN well and hope it continues to be a bbs specific to LU and a source for news and debate.

As we continue to expand with LU posters and the content and quality evolves we'll continue to grow. LU woman hoops will never equal men sports appeal but just watch what happens with a tourney win or two. School fans tend to support winners of their school, even if it's women hoops (UT, UConn, etc...).

We saw what the Sweet 16 run a decade ago did for the progra and the school. If we pull off the upset on Saturday, it would be crazy surrounding the program. But that is a big if on the road against an iconic coach and program.

True, fortunately we have a fairly well respected and successful coach also. I would drive the 3+hours and be there if I was not traveling to Florida. So I'll listen to the game and try to catch the hopeful follow up game against either JMU or Ohio State.

The sweet 16 run did wonders for LU then as did when LU play UNC and made a close game in the first half when we had Aluma. Those games brought lots of positive PR LU's way.

The one factor this LU team has that others have not is quick guards. We're almost always bigger than most other teams. Big players simply don't move as fast as smaller ones and our past guards were often pressed into turnovers. Hopefully our bigs can take advantage of their size and our guards can play with fewer turnovers. Prediction: who ever has the less turnovers will win.

I remember having a 12 seed before. I think we've been higher than that even. Not positive.

RE: Liberty WBB vs. UNC
If history is anything to go by, we have about a 6% chance of winning our game tomorrow against UNC. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/dont...ver-again/ has a very informative chart that shows the winning percentage by the top seeds in the women's bracket. A 4 seed has a historical 94% (if I read the chart right) winning percentage in the opening round against a 13 seed.

Liberty falls 71-65. Tough loss but respectable. However there are no moral victories with our women's team.

You guys need to tune in the UNC - Ohio State game going on right now. UNC is killing OSU. This says a lot about your ladies. You can view it on Watch ESPN.

I thought our ladies performed very admirably. But yes, a win would have been better.

NY Times article about LIberty vs. UNC fans
The Lady Flames got a very nice recognition in the March 23rd edition of the NY Times and the fans support at Chapel. Flames fans made an impact with red and loudness.
