The bottom line is that the Big Ten needs to join the rest of the country in scheduling. Either play a round robin schedule (ala Big East, Pac 10, MWC, WAC, Sun Belt) or add a 12th and a conference championship (ala SEC, Big 12, ACC, CUSA, MAC).

Right now, the Big Ten is the only conference in the country that can have co-champions with equal records and no tie breaker because they didn't play head to head. This happened a few years back with Ohio St & Iowa. It's complete bull$hit. It gives teams in that conference an unfair advantage to make a BCS at large spot because they could run through a schedule at 11-1 or 10-2 and have a high ranking because they didn't have to face the strongest team in their conference.

The solution - which y'all have said already - is for PSU to pull its head out of its ass and move to the Big East allowing for a 9 game round robin in the Big Ten and an 8 game round robin in the Big East.

I don't care which university it is no one school deserves that privilege. There are schools in other conferences like Utah and Boise State that deserve equal opportunities at the forbidden fruit while Notre Lame gets an open invite every year with a schedule that gets softer every year. Major conferences like the SEC and B-10 deserve extra spots for their conference play at the BCS table before Notre Lame and their ever softening schedules. Their last what 9 -10 bowl appearances prove that they are living on myth rather than reality. 04-jawdrop 04-jawdrop 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 05-sosad :soapbox:
You're preaching to the choir over here man. Now on Irisheyes.com, that would be a different story. You'd be villified over there. But who cares? It's ND. 05-mafia 05-mafia :banned:

Rutgers getting an invite has about a 0.1% chance of happening. And I hope we have the integrity and the balls to remain committed to an eastern conference at that. The CIC is hard to turn down much harder than the athletic revenues.

As for those divisions let's say Rutgers maintains its current level of play or even gets better. Combine that with PSU, Michigan, and tO$U that's a freaking blood bath division. And frankly I don't know that we have the horses just yet to keep up with Michigan and Blowhio State every year.

That is innacurate. The Big Ten never played 9 conference games. They used to play 7 conference games and began playing 8 conference games in the early 1970's. Did you just make that up?

I wonder how another expansion thread began. These buggers keep popping up whenever you turn your back, it seems.

I swore I looked at Big Ten schedules a while back, something to do with Ohio St. and that they only had what appeared to be two OOC games. I looked again and was wrong. My mistake.

EDIT: I think I had a brain fart looking at some of those OSU schedules and counted Penn St. accidentally as a Big Ten member when they weren't.

I just can't see the Big 1(11)0 playing 10 games. If they play 4 OOC games many more teams will be bowl eligible. I can see OSU, U M, & PSU being in favor of it, but I just can't see. Purdue, IU, Minn, Iowa, Northwestern, Ill, & MSU in favor of it. They often times struggle to be bowl eligible.
