I know that a lot of us are disappointed, angry, and frustrated. Rightfully so. But I also just wanted to reflect on what a fantastic year it has been for our boys in blue. Going into this season, I expected 20+ wins, maybe an NIT birth. What happened over these past few months was so much more fun than I could have imagined. Only in my wildest dreams did I think we'd be talking about the NCAA seriously, or beating VCU, or going 13-1 OOC, or getting into the Top-25. To watch this team when they were at the height of their game, in person, will be one of my favorite memories of my time here at Old Dominion. These guys can play with passion and grit and have played some truly beautiful basketball. I'm a senior now, graduating in May, and I couldn't be happier for these guys. In 2011, my last year of high school, I watched ODU play in the NCAA tournament, and told myself that I'll be there soon, watching the Monarchs in March Madness as a student. That may not have happened, but I don't care anymore. After 5-25, after going to every home game and seeing 2 wins in person, I thought I'd never get to see Old Dominion basketball shine like it used to. It broke my heart. Last year gave me hope. This year was fantastic. And next year should be even better. I'm not sure what I'm trying to accomplish with this post, but seeing everyone angry at each other, I just wanted to share how I felt.

And it's weird, cause from the wording it would seem that the year is over, but there's still Monarch basketball to be played. Whether it's the NCAA, NIT, CIT, CBI or whatever, I'll be watching. Let's Go Monarchs!

Nice post. Still some basketball left to be played, just not in the tournament we all wanted to be in.

Everyone is really down but the rebuilding continues. I'm very interested in seeing what might happen with the last scholly the coaches have to use. Hope it can be put to good use.

I liked what coach Stith said in the post game yesterday. He said something like we have to keep in perspective this team has come a long way in a very short time. Everyone in the locker room is very disappointed and upset because they expected more but sometimes life lessons can be tough. This helped them realize there is still work to be done.

The future is very bright for this team. I feel bad for the seniors we lose but I look for us to come back bigger, better, stronger an better next year.

Agree completely. I think the team exceeded all reasonable expectations this season. It was way more fun than originally anticipated. I never remember seeing a team so dramatically different at home versus on the road - but they will learn from that. I am very excited about next year. We have 3 pretty big boys that have been sitting on the bench this season as red shirts. They will come in having a season under their belt learning the system. Their size is just what we need. We have the guards we need. Next season is going to be great. BUT, this season is not over. We are equipped to make a deep NIT run - especially with a few homes games.
