I might not be remembering correctly but I thought I recalled the story on Hunter was that he wasn't getting serious offers at IUPUI which is why he moved on to Georgia State.
Yep, not remembering correctly.

I can accept that, but I'd love to hear some examples of what jobs he turned down while at IUPUI.
I'm pretty sure I was told by someone who was part of the process when he was hired that he was frustrated that, despite all his success, he wasn't getting any attention for higher-level jobs. He decided that moving to the CAA and the Atlanta market would help him get noticed.

Who?

Someone still employed by the university.

LOL we still beat the mighty ga southern by almost 20 pts. If we're average then you guys must be below average. That's your logic. :)

And you also lost to us when we scored a crappy 55 points. Yes. We are below average. Luckily we play in a bad bball conference. If we didn't, we wouldn't have been the first place team until the last game of the season.

The turnaround in basketball culture at GSU points to CRH being around until a significantly better offer hits. I have nothing solid on that...just a feeling that he loves what he's building.

As Stan said, though, the Miami factor adds an interesting twist. And I have been a little nervous since the nosedive of the CAA and our move to the Sun Belt. He was very big on the strength of the CAA in his early time here.

I ask because Miami's coach is on the hot seat entering next season, and if he bombs next year he's out on the street. Harper might just be my number one choice for a new head coach if that's the case (not that my opinion makes much of a difference), and I'm just curious what you guys think of him.

FYI he's a Miami alum from nearby Dayton, and going from the Belt to the MAC would push him up to a conference with an overall RPI of ten versus twenty. I imagine those would be the only major reasons that would make us attractive to him at this point since our program is in shambles. That, and with his son either going to the NBA this year or graduating in 2016 you wouldn't think that he'd be tied to GSU anymore by personal reasons.

Bama fired their coach, but they may not be interested in a SBC coach.

RE: Question for Georgia State fans
I'm not sure what's being argued right now. We played good enough defense all season to be conference champs, but we shot like crap in enough games to guarantee 2nd place. I'll tip my hat to Ga State and their ball team they managed to do both enough to win and we didn't. The future is promising for GS basketball (if we can keep Byington for another year or two).

GL to Ga State and see you on the court next season.

Not sure how GSUs future is bright. We lose everyone, and Byington has yet to show he can recruit or adjust to any type of basic zone defense.

I think that nothing short of a P5 offer will dislodge him from GSU. Even more specific, it would need to be an offer from a Georgia or Indiana school, keeping in mind that he has homes in both states and that he and his wife are in that stage in their lives where they would prefer to stay in one place.

And there is a pretty big basketball school among those two states that might be in for a coaching change. You have to wonder if they don't at least have an eye on him.

RE: Question for Georgia State fans
Two years later...

Long story short, our team flopped last season but the coach was kept on for what amounted to a lame duck season in the final year of his contract. Team and facilities aren't very good, but we do have the MAC Freshman of the Year and rumors of a new arena on the horizon. Miami boards think Hunter is the least likely to be hired off this list unless we get a big donation to lure him in.

Hmm. It's even harder to see it as a move up now than it was a couple of years ago. I would think that for it to happen, there would be some combination of a strong desire to go home and $$$.
