I can't pull up the writing of it at work. But I would advise you all to pull it up, read it, and contact your representative and senator.

Does this mean Hubbard wouldn't let a member of the supermajority file it?

How many cosponcers since that was what we were waiting on

I believe Jack said he would file his bills on Tuesday.

I'm sure he is working with Rogers on things & they probably plan on both of them filing bills.

I don't know off hand what number of democrats are in the Alabama House, but we need this to be bipartisan because we might need those blue votes.

RE: John Rogers bill is already filed HB272 & HB273
John Rogers strikes again.

First off, if both of these bills passed, HB 272 would completely override HB 273. Secondly in HB 272, setting up a "supervisory board" for UAB, the members of said board are appointed by the UA Board of Trustees.

And HB 273 requires that there be three members of the UA Board of Trustees from every congressional district, and that one be a graduate of UA, one be a graduate of UAB, and one be a graduate of UAH. In some of the districts in the state, there's going to be slim pickings for quality candidates to meet those requirements, I think.

You have Rogers & Patricia Todd along with Smitherman, Givhan, & Moore for starters.

I thought Jack was suppose to file his bill this past Tuesday or yesterday 12March2015?

There's been so many "gonna be"s and "supposed to"s that haven't happened that I'm not even sure UAB is playing basketball today.

I hope we Blazers can drop party lines on the UAB issues. I've heard Oliver Robinson and John Rogers are not overly friendly to Jack's cause, and perhaps vice versa. We need to call and email those 3 and any other UAB-friendly legislators to make sure they work together and support each other at least behind the scenes.

I'd cross a party line in a second to do right by UAB. I expect these guys to do the same.

Not sure if he initially planned on that day or not.

Something made him decide to change the date.

Maybe a little more arm twisting needed to be done.

I had a nice talk with John on Tuesday, along with BandDad and my day-job 2nd in command. John Rogers is totally aboard for our cause.

That's good to hear. John and Oliver (and others) are in the difficult spot of being in the minority party, so Jack, as a Republican, may get more credit than they do for championing the UAB cause, but I hope they can be team players and stick to the cause.

On the flip side, Jack's political career could be on the line over this issue. For that, I appreciate his efforts even more!

In my limited lobbying for UAB back in the day - John would often go off the plan but always have UAB best interest in mind. Jack appears to ether be very flexible in his approach (disorganized?) But I believe he also has the interest of UAB at heart However In the opinion of some of the legislators that part of the flexibility may be based on a lack of fortitude to cross supermajority/his mentor Hubbard. This attitude may be long term best tactics for UAB but has led to impatience and the apparent split

Hubbard is a tool. Hubbard is also a tool for the AU Board of Trustees, among others. Difficult for me to image him doing anything more valuable than letting the bills be filed and assigned to Committee. The University Boards (all of them) are adamantly opposed to any legislative interference in governance.

But, if they reach the floor, I think they've got more than a puncher's chance. I really do.
