I am a multi-instrumental but amateur bluegrass musician who has appeared on Song of the Mountains, etc. You think musicians are tired of Wagon Wheel...I haven't heard Rocky Top played at a jam session in years. Rocky Top is as musically challenging as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

My opinion of it is based on hearing session players and the guys/girls on lower broadway who have been playing it 1-2 times an hour since 2007.
Let me clarify, I am 100% in with it being a one time a game thing, similar to what WVU does with Country Roads, Florida does with their deal at the end of the third quarter, aTm and the swaying back and forth, Sweet Home Alabama at Bryant Denny, etc... There is nothing wrong with it. Same as the band should absolutely do Sweet Caroline and it be encouraged that the fans respond with "Go Bucs Go" instead the bah bah bah or whatever the hell it is. It encourages fan interaction/participation and that's great.
The idea of playing it multiple times a game is nuts. I mean are you gonna add Travis Tritt's Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde? It mentions the fictitious truck stop in Johnson City, Tn.
The effort of trying to create real gameday atmosphere is great, but clearly more research needs done. More trips to successfful pro and college sports venues, as well as peer institutions. It honestly wouldn't hurt to visit North Dakota State, even though winning is a big part of their attendance success, I've heard it's a great gameday deal.

I have a friend who traveled for about 10 years with band as a lead guitarist, he absolutely hated Free bird and Stairway to Heaven, in fact when a fan asked for Free Bird, depending on how buzzed his was, how big the requester was and how good the bouncers were he would flip them off and say "No Charge"

Wagon Wheel annoys me because it is directionally challenged, West from Cumberland Gap isn't going to get you to Johnson City for a long long time, the guy who wrote even said he used West because West has more power then East.. WTF?

Good golly. Someone with administrator power needs to delete this thread and stop the pain.

Please let the sports season begin soon....

That's what I meant. It should be played at games, but not insane amounts. However we do need a touchdown song, and I wonder what that will be.

+6 for the touchdown. Extra point for the style.

RE: Marching Bucs
The fight song does just fine, and nothing wrong with adding something else (ie Georgia does Glory, Glory when they score the TD then some other song after, Tennessee with Down the Field followed by Rocky Top, etc...)

Not too much longer and we'll see what they got.

So, we're all pretty much in agreement that Wagon Wheel is a great song for Johnson City and should be considered for our touchdown fight song?

On my way to Knight's last night I noticed the band practicing on the field just to the right of the soccer practice field. I stopped to listen and it sounded wonderful. To hear that after twelve years was just inspirational. They are working very hard and were still practicing last night after darkness. Go Marching Bucs!

Listening to the marching band practice is music to my ears. ETSU is on it's way major college status once again. It thrills me to no end!

There are more videos on facebook. The band was all over the campus. There is a special video featuring the band, football players, cheerleaders and students. Some really good stuff.

The video shoot is exceptional. Hats off to all involved. It deserves a "Bucky".
