Tray Roberts, helps kickstart the baseball team
Liberty baseball so far this season has been playing like a team needing a spark to ignite the flame. Granted the extreme cold weather has been a factor, but it's been unfavorable for both teams. In watching several games online, there was one obvious factor lacking on the Flames team. A spark plug. You know, that pesky, gnat-like player that disrupts the rhythm of a pitcher when he gets on base. That speed guy who who can stretch a 1st to 3rd play when most can only make second base. The player that the short stop pays close attention to darting back and forth toward 2nd base doing all he can to keep a short lead at second while opening up a larger gap on the infield right side. That player that can chop a hard infield hit and put pressure on the infield knowing that a perfect play is required to get the out.

I hope Tray Roberts can become that type of player. The Flames need it. When he has been able to make contact and get on base, or draw a walk, the attention shifts to him. As a soph, hopefully he'll develop more understanding in how he can influence a game with speed, making contact, and providing intangibles often not reported in game stats. So far he's been aggressive (a little to much) likely in his desire to be a full time player. I hope the settles in and becomes that spark for the Flames. We need a table setter on the team.

Hopefully he'll move from the DH to a field player. Just have a feeling he could what's needed at this time. It's always better to ask a player to tone down their enthusiasm rather than to express it. I loved his disruptive time while on base and taking third on a shallow hit ball to center. That simple action can make a huge impact on a close game.

Watched part of 3 of the games over the weekend. Good to see the team gaining so momentum with wins. Seems like the lucky lady is shining on us at the present. That walk off, hit batter game ending play was unique. The SC top ten play was a great play. And Tray Roberts hit the ball hard with stinging line drives. Most found players but with hard line drives come the hits. He did get a favorable call at second base when the ump favored a call to us over PS when the replay showed that Roberts was tagged just prior to arriving at second base.

We did stub our toe in the beginning of the season with poor play and loses. Hopefully we've turned the corner and can keep winning and get back into the top 25. That would be a great goal for this team this year. A top 25 finish, another BSC championship and deeper into the post season.

Liberty vs. VT
Listening to game in Blacksburg as they have no online video like LU. LU pouring it on scoring 4 runs in 2nd on crushed Sankey HR. Flames up 4-0 in middle of second.

Was 12-2 LU after 8 after a Sankey Grand Slam in the 8th. At that point we'd only used 2 pitchers. Stafford went 7 and Evans Finished the 8th. Now VT has scored 2 in the 9th. We brought in Blaylock, and now bases are loaded with 1 out and Alex Close is coming in to try to clean it up,
