conference tourney
so what's everyone's thoughts on the conference tourney...

I'd guess-
10 Creighton over 7 DePaul
8 Seton Hall over 9 Marquette

1 Nova over 8 Seton Hall
5 St John's over 4 Providence
2 Georgetown over 10 Creighton
6 Xavier over 3 Butler

1 Nova over 5 St John's(hope Wright really doesn't run up the score- don't know if we could handle it)
6 Xavier over 2 Georgetown

1 Nova over 6 Xavier

I can't disagree given how the season has gone, but I am having a hard time seeing X in the finals.

If they had any other SF opponent I'd put them out there- but man, they have Georgetown's number this year.

Agreed. I think they get by Butler. I don't know what turns X into Georgetown's kryptonite, but there is something there. RPI Forecast's RPIWizard feature says that losing to Villanova in the finals could get X into the 20s for RPI. Would prefer to see X and SJ in the 7-10 game over the 8-9 if possible.

The problem for that is where SJ and X are right now. St John's loses vs PC- they are pretty much a lock for the 8/9 game. For X, if they get 1 win, they must win that 2nd game to get out of the 8/9 game I think. So for them it's better to either win 2 games, or lose 1st game.

Think Georgetown is going to win all 3 games and win the tourney.

You may be right. I hope Butler beats Xavier so we don't see Xavier in the SF.

RE: conference tourney
In this morning's bracket update at CBS, Jerry Palm knocked Butler down a line (to a #5) for losing to X, but did not move X up from #9. The ESPN site even had the wrong headline for the game: "Xavier outlasts Providence in OT." Palm also moved St. John's down a line to a #7 after losing to Providence, but left the Friars at a #5. I'm still not sure how he sees St. John's as a #7 with a #43 RPI and X as a #9 with a #30 RPI. I also find it hard to believe that there are 16-20 teams out there between Georgetown (a projected #4 with #18 RPI) and Xavier. Ken Pom is closer to the truth with Georgetown (21), Butler (22), Xavier (26), and Providence (29) all ranked in the 20s, and St. John's a step behind at #43.

So maybe the experts will think X deserves an 8 seed if-when they beat the Hoyas for the third time this season, and then perhaps a win in the Big East finals might even get them out of a dreaded 8-9 game. Actually, I love being a fan of the team that gets no respect. As Chris Mack said in the locker room after the game, it's not an upset if you know you're the better team.

RE: conference tourney
Palm isn't one of the more accurate bracketologists out there.

Part of X's thing is all the bad losses. Georgetown doesn't have a loss outside the top 50. Xavier has 4 outside the top 100 and 6 outside the top 50.

Also of all the teams between Georgetown and Xavier yesterday in the bracket matrix- only Butler and St John's lost.

I will say I have no idea how he sees St John's as a 7. No way are they top 25-28.

Ya think? I just don't think St John's has a real chance at a 7. Especially if Xavier wins tonight...

Huge game for Nova- not only their win but also the UVA loss. Lunardi now has Nova 3rd 1 seed and Virginia 4th 1 seed.
