Even with Dixon this year W&M wasn't a great defensive team. They don't have to be great given their offense- they just have to give a respectable effort. In their conference losses, every team shot at least 40% from 3. The only loss this year where the opponent didn't do well from beyond the arc was against High Point. In 4 of their 6 conference losses their opponents shot over 50% from the field. So far in the tourney they've been better at least on the eyeball test. They handled Elon, and while Hofstra put up points I don't think the defense was awful.

RE: Northeastern III
This post from Gheorge the Blog has some good numbers, and actually comes to the same conclusion you did about what we need to do to win. I think it points out that we're a Jekyll/Hyde defensive team, and at least 3 of those losses were when teams shot well above their season norms, which can only be the defense so much. But 3 of those 6 were also when Dixon was out or still recovering (fewer than normal minutes) and I think it points to the limitations of our zone versus our man defense. With Dixon, we can more easily play man defense; without him we play a lot more zone. Shaver said in the Hofstra postgame that we were playing zone in the second half because Dixon is not healthy enough to play man all game. Our percentage of man vs. zone may be the difference. The zone has been effective as a change of pace or when the other team does not have a great shooter. Northeastern's Walker certainly fits the bill.

“I can, without a doubt, say that was the loudest, most fun game I’ve ever played in my basketball career,” Tribe senior guard Marcus Thornton told ESPN 980′s Tim Murray after scoring a CAA tournament record 37 points against Hofstra.

Have moved on from wearing out the game winner loop to now wearing out Tony's pregame, locker room challenge to the team:

The hype, the pressure for this game has reached unprecedented heights after yesterday's
forever unbelievable classic.

More W&M alums, students, fans and supporters are involved with this one event than this long-time Tribe watcher can recollect. More W&M-connected folks and fans will watch tonight's game than---and I really mean this---every other Tribe telecast rolled together ever.

Go get 'em guys!

I would think Stewart, as a former Tribe athlete, might care.

Maybe he would care more if you cared enough to use his real name!

Jon Libowitz does not appear to have much love for W&M or for his time on the Reservation, except for the Soccer Team and Al Albert, who was his coach. He did return to campus to receive an honorary degree, but that's "Show Biz" more than affection for the College. And, for a guy who has made Millions$$$ I have never heard of him donating anything of significent value to the College.

I don't know Jon Stewart donated $$$$ or not, but his contribution to the college is his name itself. He is listed on many publications or websites as our notable alumni so we are getting a lot of exposure that way. Good for Jon Stewart for what he has accomplished and hope he roots for the Tribe tonight.
