That is from at least three years ago.

The only pub they are getting now is for sporting a nine game losing streak.

They have only played ten games.

RE: Bearcat Baseball
Coach Ty Neal (now in his second season) put the kabosh on crap like that. He has basically decided to rebuild the program from scratch. He wants to create a winning culture here.

This years team is very young. There is only one senior, a hand full of juniors and then nothing but freshmen and sophomores on the roster. They have been starting 6-7 freshmen every game. They have and will get knocked around a bit, but Coach Neal is hoping the short term sacrifices will pay off in the long term. I think he will get it done

Should probably add a warning about checking out thechive at work, for those who have to deal with that sort of thing.

They at least won some games when they were having fun.

Word gets out that you can't have fun at UC and recruiting becomes difficult. Don't go there, you can't smile.

Let's see how they do against mighty Niagra this weekend. Temps should make it seem like a home game for them.

Something's got to break. I don't think they have won a game yet this year.

Your other post directly implies that they have won once.

Its baseball. Its mad minutes and long periods of downtime. A little levity is part of the downtime culture.

If he thinks that stuff lends itself to not winning, yhat is cool. But best start seeing some movement of the needle in tte correct direction here in year 2.

I'm with you Rath. There has been and always will be some levity and grab-ass in baseball. But there is a time for it.

If you note when the hijinks that were happening in the first post. It was all after the game.

Let the kids have fun. Very few of these kids will have a career in baseball past college. Enjoy the ride and loosen up. Unless Neal thinks he is in over his head and is already pressing.

Absolutely right. Heck, very few of them are even on scholarship when you only have 11 to split up. Vast majority of them do this because they love it. Not to pay for school or get their shot at pro baseball.

During games and while working out, be serious as a heart attack. Rest of the time, be a 18-20 year old having fun in college.

I understand why he put an end to that stuff. That being said I had no problem when they were doing it. That was the last season I covered baseball for BCJ. They only did that stuff after games they won. It was just a way of celebrating the win, which didn't happen much that year.

Or the next one or this one.... 03-wink

Waaay too early, but I do wonder if we are going to look back on the transition from Clearly and say it was like firing Rick Minter after all of those years of sorta ok and then having Mark Dantonio come in and tank in 3 years. Topic for a far away future date perhaps.

Way too early to judge him yet. He cleared out a large portion of the roster he inherited and is pretty much starting from scratch.

I would say two years. Lets see what we get when all these freshman starting this year are juniors and his first class is seniors.

RE: Bearcat Baseball
Supposedly, before games, the players were talking about planning the post-game hijinks more than preparing for games. But, I don't know. The team was sure as hell winning more than they are now.

This is a young team, I get the poor start, and against a lot of very good programs. But, As Rath correctly points out, I will seriously wonder about it, if we don't see during-year improvement. Good news is, it cannot get any worse than it is now.

Wow - mid 40s this weekend. I guess the team is glad that aluminum bats are allowed in college.
