My boss uses his work email as his private email. He's old school. Work IS life...

No. I said I think it demonstrates bad judgment. I also think it's part- her being old and not appreciating the vulnerability of her private email account from hackers, and part- her surrounding herself with yes men who are afraid to criticize her. But the fact she apparently made an exception for herself to what is standard protocol on this demonstrates bad judgment.

Bad judgement why?

there's a difference between using your work email as your private email, and using private email for work business.

See my last sentence. She made an exception for herself without an appreviation of the consequences.

Let me clarify then. Is it bad because she got caught or is it bad because it subverts open government efforts deliberately?

regardless of the candidate I dont think I would want someone in office who would not appreciate the vulnerability of that. Especially right now when hackers attacks are getting more and more common.

Its one thing if someone doesnt know how to use email and does not use it on a regular basis, but I would say a lot of those people in my experience are also way more worried or paranoid about information in cyberspace in general.

Truthfully what you said sounds like just making an excuse for her and a poor one at that.

I guess I just dont see the scenario where she really was not hiding something.

She used it to stay off grid. Plan and simple. Wonder how many underlings had accounts. I bet this was used to circumvent the controls. The fbi should confiscate the server, not that it would do any good.

I forward most of my work email communication to my private email because of the downtime problems the corporate servers have ecperienced. Our corp website and email functions go offline at least o ce every other month; if my private email accçount di not have work email's I could be out of touch with clients for up to 2 days

different situation. i would hope that the SECRETARY OF STATE would have access to more reliable servers and infrastructure! even if there was ZERO impropriety, you would figure that someone who holds a position of that kind of power and an ASPIRING presidential candidate would realize how this would be perceived.

this just stinks of extremely poor judgement or of extreme lack of transparency. either way, to me, this disqualifies her as a legitimate candidate in my eyes.

While it seems necessary in your scenario, I do wonder if it's against your workplaces policies to do so, though. Personally, I can not, as confidential information could be compromised. As far as a liability issue, it would seem odd if you were able to send information out through your personal email. Typically, organizations want to be able to keep record/hold data of what's been sent and received. Can you actually send out from your personal?

I know that in Illinois, if you are in government and you use your private account, it opens your private account entirely to FOIA requests. The same thing goes for a private cell phone. If you make a work call and someone can verify that, Joe Taxpayer can FOIA your bills.
