2016 Football Recruiting
Rice has received a 2016 commitment from Dylan Silcox, 6-2 195 from East Chambers. Has played RB, WR and DB. Projects to Safety at Rice. He's a long strider with more top end speed than suddenness, but has good change of direction for his size and plays over his feet. Has above average ball skills.

Yes, knows the McDonalds - they are neighbors.

Any possibility of projection to linebacker?

I was wondering about that, too. He looks like he could get a lot bigger and with 4.4 speed, he could be a pretty monstrous linebacker.

Must have a fair bit of "sudden ness" if that 4.4 time is correct.
And at 6'2" ....sweet!

Where are y'all getting the 4.4? I saw 4.6, and that seems more consistent with the tape. Still not bad speed for the frame.

Yes, I agree. Hence my query as to whether he can grow into linebacker. After all of our coverage issues, not sure that we want to put a 4.6 guy back there, if that speed is accurate. Perhaps we see him as a ST guy.

Sorry, it was a 4.4 shuttle that I saw on Hudl.

Even more reason to grow him into an LB

Well, this is an interesting change from past years' recruiting threads, which have tended towards the delusional side IMO.

https://twitter.com/bruffytravis

We've offered offensive tackle Travis Bruffy of Ridge Point (same school which has produced current walk-ons Jae Phan and Dan Carpenter). I'm pretty sure Travis is Daniel Bruffy's kid (former baseball Owl). We'll see how it goes but he'll get some Big 12 offers too most likely. BTW, Bruffy is 6-7, 270!

It looks like he has visited several Big12 schools and LSU. If he accepts, I think he'll be hard to keep.

Isn't that Bailiff's signal that we got a commitment?

Sure is. WE should be seeing something any time now.

RE: 2016 Football Recruiting
We've also offered Jack Greene, an OL from the same school as Bruffy. Greene is a little bit smaller (maybe 6-3, 300?) but obviously is another big'un. I know the Greene family a bit as their youngest son swims on the same year round program as my girls. I think Jack is good friends with Bailiff's twins (who are also big boys but don't play football at the moment - one of them could play next year perhaps?). Obviously Ridge Point is going to have a massive OL next year.

RE: 2016 Football Recruiting
The Owls got a commit from WR Paxton Segina a short while ago. Segina (6-4 200) plays at Austin Vandegrift and reminds me so much of Jordan Taylor. He has great body control and put up some monster numbers last fall - 65 catches, 1313 yards, 20 touchdowns. His dad is former Rice All-SWC Center Richard Segina.

Per mark Berman, @MarkBermanFox26: Rice gets 2016 verbal commitment from safety Dylan Silcox (6-2/190) from East Chambers HS in Winnie, Tx.

It's become pretty obvious that we're going after bigger players now, and getting them.
