Surprise, surprise.

Mr. Nichol still getting press, this time in the NY Times.

Apparently his new position is heading the "Center on Poverty", an "academic" center, part of the UNC Law School. The Center is among three being closed by the UNC Board of Governors (the others the Center of Civic Engagement and Social Change at NCCU and the Center for Biodiversity at East Carolina).

Mr. Nichol released a statement, quoted in the Times, saying the board was engaging in "state sponsored censorship". It also quotes that Mr. nichol has been an outspoken critic of the state's Republican leaders. His tone was described as defiant and "pugnacious".

The NY Times doesn't provide a real objective account for why the Board of Governors voted to close the centers other than "they weren't producing much". The omission is not uncommon for anyone who knows the Times. It's not what they print so much as what they don't. The fact this was even one of possibly eight major articles under "National News" chosen by today's NY Times shouldn't surprise either.

The entire article focused more on the outrage from Mr Nichol, painting him in a more sympathetic light, than any objective information on the decision, what the center actually does or how well Mr. Nichol was in running it.

Anyway, good riddance and glad our own Board was able to move rather quickly once his motives became apparent. Seems he is still on the same path in Chapel Hill.

RE: OT Gene Nichol
iT IS EASY TO FIGURE OUT FROM THE NAMES OF THESE THREE "CENTERS" THAT THEY ARE ALL, VALUELESS POLITICALLY CORRECT ORGANIZATIONS TO WASTE TAXPAYER MONEY.

The "Poverty Law Center" at UNC Law School was originally founded [and funded] by disgraced NC Senator, Democrat VP Nominee, and democrat Presidential candidate John Edwards. [This was part of Edwards' strategy to remake his image as a "man of the people" rather than as an ambulance chasing medical malpractice lawyer] Edwards and Big Nick were thick as thieves before Big Nick became the W&M Pres. After Big Nick lost his cool after his contract at W&M was not renewed Edwards bailed out Big Nick and put him in charge of the "Center". Obviously Edwards has turned the Center over to the taxpayers to pay for and the Taxpayers have said No Mas. Cool!!!
