Quote:A Chippewa Valley High School teacher has been charged with having inappropriate relations with a teenage student.

Christopher David Cowles, 23, of Clinton Township, was arrested Feb. 19 by Clinton Township police and charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Quote:Police Capt. Richard Maierle said Cowles allegedly had contact with a 16-year-old female at his home last year. The girl’s mother called police earlier this year. The student is 17 years old now.

Cowles was hired in January 2014 as a career technical education, or CTE, teacher. As part of the district’s hiring process, he underwent a criminal background check and a fingerprint scan — both of which he passed.

Goose Creek SC, I remember a car dealership commercial from there from years ago. "Cars are like eggs, they cheapa' in da' country."

But Kap you are correct about this being an epidemic! This guy what a loser, first he's a cop and now a molesting teacher!

statutory rape, no less.

Is modern technology making it easier for this to happen, or are we just finding out about it more than we used to?

Do you remember any teachers banging students while in high school back in the day? I don't.

How would you know? I'm sure they weren't obvious about it.

This, and only this.

How many hundreds of years did the Catholic Church get away with these sorts of problems just because people didn't know? And I don't mean that in a 'bash the catholic church' way, I'm sure this sort of thing happened in any similar organization and was never caught or brought to the forefront of news because of it's nature.

It's similar to those who say 'Well, these days, who knows what could happen to your kid?!' as if it isn't objectively safer for children now (it is). People who point to online sex offender registries as proof lose double points because those people have always lived in your neighborhoods, but before you just didn't know who they were.

The news has spots to fill, and stories like this play on parents worst fears, so they get played. People are just bad at understanding that the relative frequency of stories reported on by any news station is not at all indicative of their actual relative risks. No one on this messageboard will be murdered, for instance, but I can guarantee more than a few of the people here will die due to complications from Diabetes, and the same goes for literally hundreds of causes.

he's only pointing out this is nothing new.....(and the pun about dicks)

what it really means is people figure out ways to mask their internal demons....some are willing to risk exposure vs closure

it's funny how the demons play out in the world of text.....

jesus would've never made it past the 'cutting of umbilical' today.....

...and I'm not jewish

It probably wasn't reported back then because many of the states had embarrassingly low ages of consent, also much more likely the parents of the student would be embarrassed/pressured not to talk.

Yeah, I do, and the teaches got the best looking girls to boot.

I have to tentatively agree with VA in that kids having cell phones and parents being able to check them is making this problem easier to catch.

Do you have any research to back up this statement or are you just pulling it out your ass?
