getting either color would suck, if they have to color something the endzones are fine or do the colored sidelines, the main field should be green. As for a rule change, there is no way they would force a school to change what already exists. It would be grandfathered in. When it needed to be replaced they would not be allowed to use non-green.
they put an identical field in the indoor, i doubt they would go to a non green field. The deal was to practice inside on the same playing condition.

I'm pretty sure you were one of those complaining about EMU's turf making the TV look like a black and white game.
Any color other than green is nauseating and kitschy. Moreover, the NCAA has been toying with the idea of outlawing turf colors that match uniforms (Boise State = Blue) for years because it gives an unfair advantage. The hurdle they face is how to deal with primarily green uniforms like Michigan State.
Getting black turf, or even...ugh red turf, could potentially mean having to replace it if the rule goes through. Much like a souped up '99 Honda Civic with a V-12 engine, just because you can, doesn't always mean you should.
Seriously, that EMU game was awful to watch on TV.

As for the red endzones in the rendering, I don't think that means anything as for how the turf will actually look. The most realistic photo of the stadium in the master plan the turf looks like it currently does. My guess is they are just planning to replace with the same looking turf.

NIU practices in Huskie Stadium. 0% chance they get black turf. Practices in August under the sun on black turf? Yeah, no.

So without Google's help, who can name all four (extra points if you can name the one coming in 2015) non-traditional field colors in Div-I football (FBS and FCS)
Not counting Lindenwood Stadium which is a NAIA stadium, and dubbed "the nation's most hideous field"

Keep the field green, just PLEASE color the endzones either red or black!!!
Remember how the black endzone looked at the Orange Bowl???

Forget about it! The turf is not changing. It's just going to be a replacement of the same looking turf.

I believe Lindenwood is now D2 or is in transition into D2

Wow there is a new one this year too. I doubt anyone will get that one unless you really keep up on the D1 FCS field chat.

Nope. Lots of FBS teams have different color endzones. Heck EMU just installed a grey field last year.
That's stretching the truth to say lots. Boise State (blue / Smurf Turf) and Eastern Michigan (gray / The Factory) are the only FBS schools (even though many on here do not believe EMU should be labeled FBS) while FCS includes three: Eastern Washington (red / The Inferno) (Coastal Carolina (teal), and Central Arkansas (purple and gray alternated every five yards); Division II has Univ. of New Haven (blue and yellow) while NAIA Lindenwood in Belleville, IL, has (red and gray alternating every five yards / often called the nation's most original and hideous football field).
Texas-San Antonio keeps saying it will neither confirm or deny the intent to unveil an orange field with blue lines when they play in the Alamo Dome. There are also various colored high school fields around the country and some indoor football teams (Nebraska Danger has black while LA Kiss have silver).
I guess someone there visited the NIU library to get that idea.

Honestly, I am not sure that they won't go with something "crazy" based on what they did with the b-ball floor. If nothing else, I "see" them using the "eyes" rather than the logo.
