Ethics challenged speaker is controling bills prefilled
Our republican house speaker that makes his living off (semi-)government contracts and is going to be tried for soliciting lobbyist before the house for contracts for personnel business. Is stopping the pre-filing of bills by the republican super majority without his preapproval. With the governor actually showing some independence and worried about his (Riley's clique ) control if things go wrong. He has taken more control than normal.

This could be very bad news in that the speaker is very susceptible to the influence(s) of money and power rather than the people's will. The good news is that Jack is wired into this clique and might have some influence with Hubbard.

It may or may not have any bearing on our bills, but Hubbard is elected from Lee County.

Some believe that Bentley was behind Hubbard's ethics charges.
That would do nothing but help our cause.

That greatly helps our cause. Bentley & the Gump republicans are the ones attacking Hubbard & co.

I lean toward the choas helping our cause, but it could go either way. I think we're fighting an uphill battle: Direct Communications has done poorly as a PR firm and in the NoCon run-up, but the legislature is their turf. This could make it harder for them, and open the door for vote trading.

We'll have to decide indivdually ourselves how OK we are with some sausage making. If Jack swaps a bloc of bi-partisan, bi-racial votes for OR against Bentley's tax package in exchange for an open and transparent Board (or three Boards) that supports all three campuses, obeys the law, and is tied to neither the Machine or Bryant Bank, personally I'm OK with a Machiavellian trade.

Yep. I think we are all aware of how it works down there.

Scratching some backs to get what you want can work to our favor here.
