ISIS might be able to do some small scale terrorists opps in Italy but to invade/take over Italy via Libya they have to cross the Mediterranean Sea. As far as I've heard they don't have the military watercraft to mount an invasion of the Italian peninsula. If they do try with whatever watercraft they have they would be stopped (bombed and sunk) before they ever reached land.

That would take time but would be the only way they could do it by essentially destroying it from within.

I think Italy controls it's immigration fairly tightly though (you have to prove you have a skill set that an Italian doesn't have and and a job waiting for you to be allowed to legally move there from another country) so any ISIS immigrating would likely have to be of the illegal type.

I don't know much about Italy itself, but I don't think they are allowed to control their immigration tightly as an EU member. This is cited as a major problem in the UK and one of the main issues that has given UKIP traction.
