It would be difficult because then Kent would have to find a conference that would take us and it probably would not be as good for Kent.

Yes, of course. I was speaking more to the mindset of some fans than to the reality of it actually happening.

I don't think Miami would ever consider dropping baseball. We have invested quite a bit in some very nice facilities and there is a solid tradition. Oxford is a little better for baseball in the spring weatherwise than most other MAC locations, the stadium is in the middle of campus and many students and town folk enjoy stopping by for a few innings or even a whole game.

How about starting the season in the fall (late Aug/early sept) playing till early Nov/Tday and then picking up the season March 1st. At least the entire nation get's half a season of decent weather and good games. Would also give the players more opportunity to develop their talents and give MLB teams more opportunity to scout them

Minnesota is moving the baseball program to the new Vikings stadium. I think a more modest approach to this could be taken with northern schools with baseball and softball. Imagine combining an indoor facility for foot ball with an infield for baseball and softball. Might be tough scheduling around spring football but not impossible

I wish Akron would work out a deal to play their games in Canal Park. It's a great minor league park, owned by the city.

Where would each school currently without hockey now play?

For example, CMU: Is there an indoor hockey arena anywhere near Mt. Pleasant with seating capacity of at least a few thousand?

As for EMU, ??? Could they rent Yost? Are there small arenas in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area? (anything near Plymouth? Canton?). Detroit area is a hockey hotbed with some nice hockey arena for youth hockey, but I don't know what happens as one gets closer to Ypsilanti.

No way would a school such as EMU drop many millions on an indoor arena, on or near campus, when we might need 10 - 15M for new lights, scoreboard, and press box for Rynearson.

All of that said, I agree that hockey to Midwest conferences is like peanut butter is to jelly...

EDIT: Compuware Arena (Plymouth, MI) is 17 miles from EMU. Seats 3,500 for hockey.

Compuware is also going to be used a lot less with the Whalers being moved to Flint.

RE: Should The MAC Stop Requiring Baseball At Every School?
My opinion, and I will get criticized for it, but ... Baseball is far too expensive to support in the north. Schools are out in early May. The weather before then is barely acceptable, so teams play on into June. Very expensive to keep players on campus and to travel south in March and April. Add to that... baseball is in decline. Most baseball fans are over 50. Every survey that gets published shows that the 18-35 demographic group ranks soccer ahead of baseball, and soccer can be played anytime, in any weather.
Frankly, football is the only sport that can pay its own way. With financial pressures on higher education, I see a gradual reduction in the number of sports that colleges maintain. Do we really care who wins a swimming meet, a track meet, a wrestling meet? Even basketball has trouble keeping fans.

There is no school in the MAC where football pays its own way. There aren't that many in the country that do once you get past the top of the top major conference teams. If the bottom line is that sports must pay for themselves, there will be no sports in the MAC.

The Goofers received major donor dollars to renovate their current stadium and they will continue to play the majority of their games on campus at Siefert Field.

However, the new Vikings Stadium will be very important to playing baseball in the State of Minnesota as many teams will utilize the new dome in late Winter / early Spring.
