From what I can tell, Brewton is the only of the 3 that has an offer from UNCW.

If they are going after another guard it tells me they expect to lose at least one guard. They have 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores and 2 juniors right now for 3 spots. You don't go after JUCO's to have them sit on the bench.

You're probably right, but there is need for a 3rd ball handler on the roster... Especially, since nobody is certain what Jacque Brown is going to do. Estime, Sims, Taylor, and Fornes are "guards" but none can handle the ball.
Fornes can handle the ball. He did some pretty well last year, IMO he was underutilized this year when it was needed.

He can, but I'm not sure that's a role that best suits him. It can be argued that Fornes and Taylor were both underutilized this season. Neither have been particularly good when they've gotten their chance though... They were both starters going into the season. So it's hard to say they didn't get fair chance at proving themselves.
Right, agree. But he can in a pinch.

Their playing time was all on them. Fornes lost playing time due to silly type turnovers and missed defensive assignments. He worked his way back to getting much more playing time and contributed to the team. He had four straight productive games, and was looking really good. But then he broke team rules, which took him completely out of three games. That was all on him. Hopefully he can come back into the mix and help the team finish on a good note. And carry the type of game I believe he can play over to next year and be a vital part of the program.

Agree 100 percent. that starting 3 (G/F) position should be a position open for grabs going into next season. Let Sims, Fornes, and Estime go for it, best man wins the job. That of course is if Fornes stays, which I think he will.

Imajae Dodd had a monster night in Greene Central's 2nd round 2A state playoff win. The UNC Wilmington commit shredded the smaller Vikings for 27 points, 16 rebounds, 5 blocks, and even added 6 assists to lead the team in all four categories.

Wow, that's a monster stat line!

The kid has star written all over him. I know it's hard to imagine how any freshman's game will translate to college, but it's also hard to imagine this kid not making an immediate impact in his first season.

Especially with a PG like Kai that can get him the ball!

Yep... not a jump shooter either. Puts the ball on the floor and gets to the rack. Something we've missed the past two seasons.

Will be interesting to see what coach does with him, we will need his size inside. But with that versatility, he could be a matchup nightmare for 4's away from the hoop that won't be able to keep up with him

Yeah I mean I think he backs up Cylla next season. Could also serve as a 5 when(if) we play zone with his shot blocking abilities. I like him as a guy that comes off the bench to provide energy and a lift for the frontcourt as a freshman. Long term he should be a three year starter with a very high ceiling.

RE: Recruit Updates
He sounds like a good one. Nobody's job is a lock in the frontcourt. I honestly feel that UNCW would be better playing smaller at times with Sims at the 4 since he has so many tools. It's about efficiency folks. Stats are telling and you simply need guys that are versatile offensively, defend, rebound and last but not least, have at least an even or better assist to TO ratio.

Hoops is about winning smaller battles inside the game. Teams are shooting about 2% better this year from the floor with a weighted percent via the 3 making the differential higher. Bottom line is that if the Hawks are losing by 4 point per game, less TO's are critical and, of course, better defense. The guys that play team ball on both ends and play smart and hard should be the guys that play next year. Sims is one of them for sure (whether the 3 or 4), Estime has looked better to me lately showing more confidence and better play, Toews is a given, as well as Gadsden you would think. Cylla has to become more consistent to be a lock at this point. When he's good and hitting, he can help you but otherwise, not so much-needs to embrace the finer points and be tough.

The 2 recruits are winners and reputably play HARD. I like that! We need winners and we need toughness. May the best man win their postions at least to start games. And, if you don't like it, earn it back. Hawks should have enough talent and experience to win more next year and if not, there's a problem.

RE: Recruit Updates
I like your basketball IQ 2010. You understand the game and seem to see the bigger picture.

Each of these guys can become what they need to be and that, of course, means Fornes and Taylor as well because I didn't bring them up earlier, but both have the potential to be excellent players (even starters) as evidenced by their past. It's up to the coaching staff and the individual players to make adjustments to earn minutes. This team has to play as a unit and get the best shot for the team and they have to know when it's their time to do their thing. And, they have to have 5 guys committed to getting stops and a board to finish it. In the end, they all want to win, they just have to play the game the right way. They're close now and I hope that they can build upon what they've done lately.

Getting to recruiting, well they have some grants to give now. Another viable big would seem to be the ticket as well as getting a tough, athletic guard/wing that can defend, handle and drive it. PG should be okay next year albeit that Kai is the only true PG along with Brown-Ty still has done well there (see A/TO) and can play both-a true combo. If they address getting a viable, experienced big that can rim run (grad xfer?), defend the post, board and potentially alter shots and another wing/guard that can really defend/apply ball pressure, run, and drive, that would be good to augment a potentially solid roster that has a year or 2 under their belt for most of the backcourt. Time will tell, but defense has to be the focus going forward so recruiting towards that end seems prudent.

Bill, i wouldn't bet on Brown coming back. If they were, they wouldn't have had his Sr night already!

RE: Recruit Updates
We definitely need another big. We will have 6'8" Linsenn, 6'7" Dodd and 6'7" Cylla. After that, we aren't that big.

Linsenn is our starting center with Cylla at the 4. Dodd can come in for either one of them off the bench and contribute like O'Connell does now, but he should be better. Big men take time to develop, but he has the athleticism and hops to grab rebounds and block shots at a minimum. He can also finish through contact so he can pick up buckets off rebounds as well.

Basically, Linsenn will replace Cacok and Dodd will replace O'Connell. The rest of the team will pretty much look the same.

I was told that's irrelevant. They simply wanted to honor his academic graduation. He has options (like being a Grad Transfer) but either way I imagine he uses his Medical Redshirt and plays another year. And that could very well be here.

Agree, we really need to add a true C as a grad transfer to make us taller. A starting lineup of Toews (PG), Gadsden (SG), Cylla or Simms (SF), Linsenn (PF), Grad transfer C would give us quite a bit of length.
