RE: Recruit Updates
I don't see anything that suggests we're not going to play fast. Sallah is coming from The Mount, so he certainly can play in a fast system, and Kalina runs well for his size. It's not going to be Keatts' system, but I expect we'll push the ball at every opportunity, and in the half court we'll be an inside-out offense. I assume, Cacok will be a central part of our offense next year, and I think Sallah and Kalina will be pretty good compliments inside.

Benny Moss played fast and Buzz tried to at first. Hope this way is better but need skilled players and some defense

RE: Recruit Updates
Lots of team play fast. The Citadel plays fast. William and Mary plays fast. The press was our distinguishing factor. Hope this works out.

RE: Recruit Updates
The goal as a program seems to me for the team to play fast on offense while also improving our defensive efficiency, a category we were below average in under Keatts.
Having more size and depth in the middle will certainly help with that.

RE: Recruit Updates
Given the circumstances, I like where we are. We assembled an excellent staff, Estime was a huge get, we added some needed size in transfers that are eligible to play immediately, and our roster remains strong at guard.

Exactly. Outside of the press we were highly suspect on the defensive end and it was exploited by both the P5 teams we played. We had limited size and ability to play a solid defense. We may lose a little on offense but I see our defense improving, for sure.

To state the obvious, we lose a little offensively because we just graduated three important seniors and lost, unfortunately, a talented transfer . The offensive setback isn't due to style. We weren't the clear favorites in the CAA next year if Keatts had stayed, although we were certainly top 2.

Oh for sure. It seems more than a little disingenuous for people to claim that we're going to take a step back purely because of our choice in new Head Coach, or that somehow the hire is what drove off Bryce.
Those sticking to that claim have a clear agenda.

RE: Recruit Updates
If CJ stayed, UNCW would have been the favorite going in to next year, but he departed. C of C has been building and would have been right there. Still, we want to win in the NCAA tourney and as well as we played, we lost at the very end the last two years. To me, we should have beaten UVa. That was bad that our Hawks lost and we really should have won, but our defense was terrible. That's the only thing that I didn't like about our last 2 teams, we simply couldn't defend. If you want to advance in the Big Dance, you simply have to get stops, you have to, and we didn't do that. It was cool to go on runs and be lights outs at times, but we all saw what happened we games got close and we didn't just overwhelm the opponent.
It may take some time, but I think that if this program can get skilled guys with enough overall size in the post that will embrace the defensive end, the Hawks will have a much greater chance to get past the first round and be a real contender again in the Dance. I personally think that moving Devonte to the 4 will be terrific for his overall development as a player and will be good for the program too, especially against bigger fronts that you typically see in the Dance/post season. He won't be setting NCAA records this year, but will improve his overall game and future pro status in hoops. I believe that he can be a tremendous 4 man and that this team will be able to defend the basket much better now. We shall see.
To be the best team possible next year, I still think that the staff should look to solidify the WF position will a proven graduate transfer or the best available. He can save the final grant to balance classes. It would be a lot to throw the WF position all on a freshman. I guess you could move Fornes to a 3 and possibly go two PG's/combos at times too. There are options now and that's cool. The worry is about scoring offense but it's a combination. I was never a fan of trading although we had such a dynamic offensive team like we had.
This has turned out better than it first looked the way it appears. And, it's a good sign that the staff can get out there late like this. Next year should be much easier for them.

RE: Recruit Updates
Great summation Bill. We had the better team against Virginia and I place lots of the blame on Keatts for the loss. Our inside defense was deplorable and you are on target about being unable to advance in the big dance without playing defense. It is a new beginning and I am encouraged as well with what the staff accomplished coming in late. We will likely be competitive enough to get a decent seed for the conference tournament and take it from there.

Yeah... I wasn't intending to joint that crowd with that statement. I meant it in the fashion Bricks explained better.

I have no agenda it seems pretty common sensical that we are likely to take a step back losing arguably the best player in the conference. How long we take a step back is what remains to be seen

Good for him, hope he has a great career. I also saw where Buzz's son was going to do a PG year at Hargrave

I worked several games this year for CFCC as a PA Announcer and saw him play. He's real small but athletic and can shoot. He'll probably struggle at this level defensively but as far as walk-ons go, you can do a lot worse.
It's impressive that he's not settling for D-II. Definitely a tough competitor.

Wow that kid looks exciting. Good handle and vision of the court. You can tell things are in slow motion for him. Will the physicality of going up a level be too much? I could see the kid competing for minutes as a change of pace point guard. Hard to believe he doesn't have an offer from someone with an all around game like that.
