Looks like Steere's waiver will determine how much of a contender we are next season.

If our hopes are pinned on whether a waiver will be approved or not for a guy at his 3rd school in 3 years... than that’s a failure of preparation, in my opinion. You can throw whatever other excuse at that you would like, but I’m not feeling it.

No excuses, I get it. I've stated my opinion on him prior and no need to rehash it. I think we know where we both stand at this point.

We'd better hope Dodd decides to stay. He is still on the fence. I'm hoping someone can convince him to stay here. I think he would thrive in this system with the playmakers we will have to feed him.

Yikes that’s disturbing to hear that he’s still not certain.
Gary- while I understand getting something that’s shiny and new and looks awesome, but it’s his job as a coach to fill needs. He’s not going it so far

RE: Basketball Recruit Updates
I look at it as quality control. I believe that Siddle recognizes that our weakness is in the post, but the guys he pursued to fill that need didn’t commit. The best scenario was that we fill the need with a short term solution, but I respect that he added quality players that will help us at different positions. It seems like some of y’all prefer that he add someone that simply met the profile. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt this year; the four signees are each talented and will be starters here. Not having a post presence next year will limit our ceiling, but it doesn’t change my optimism long-term. If we’re having this discussion next year, I’ll be concerned.

Agreed this late in the process he wasn’t going to get anyone good in the post. He added Steere a transfer who has a case for a waiver even if he’s not as good as he was projected out of hs. This year at state they played Jericole Hellems (6’6”) some at the 5 position when their bigs were in foul trouble so in the caa we can get away with just Steere, Dodd and Bowen. It’s a new age of basketball where you can play 5 guard if you want to, you don’t have to have the traditional 6’10” guy in the post just ask the Rockets who had PJ Tucker (6’5”) as their starting center some.

This is not the NBA nor is it the ACC. WE got absolutely demolished in this league without adequate post players. That will happen again with this roster. Sorry IMO, you don't just fill spots to fill spots when it doesn't fit your need. I don't want to settle, but i also don't feel like it's been a priority for him either. Offering 20 guards and 4 bigs doesn't qualify.

RE: Basketball Recruit Updates
The guys he’s added aren’t roster-fillers and his 2021 recruiting strategy won’t have an impact on next year’s team.

We just experienced three miserable years. Coaching matters, but we’re not a 1 big away from winning the CAA. I just don’t understand why y’all are in such a hurry to evaluate Siddle when he’s new on the job.

Because the time to give passes is over. Have we not learned anything from the last 3 years?

Coaching DOES matter, i agree. And that's why a big or two could certainly position us in the top 4, especially if he's as good of a coach as many of you think he will be. Burke, got arguably less of s roster to compete with the top half of the league, I'm not sure why some of you guys are content with phoning in another season.

This is short sighted. You're trying to complete a performance evaluation and your new employee hasn't finished reading SOPs. Everyone understands that we need a big, but no one has suggested we throw the season away. We've been bottom dwellers and I expect improvement. Siddle inherited a bad team and has had zero in-house recruiting visits and none of the guys he's recruiting have stepped on campus as a recruit. That's what we have to evaluate at this point, but I don't think we are 1 big away from winning the CAA. To assume that we're phoning in next season is a POV that lacks nuance.

You’re right it’s the caa with lesser talent than both the acc and nba. It’s all about system fits. McGrath tried to follow Roy’s system a bit which works when you have multiple dominate bigs which we did not have.

Also adding a guy who averaged 17 points and nearly 7 rebounds as a freshman at the d1 level isn’t exactly “filling spots just to fill spots” that’s adding talent for the future in 21-22

In 2017 when we were a 12 seed in the ncaa tournament our starting center was 6’7”. Yes cacok was more dominate than any big on our roster but this should show us that in the system that Siddle will run athleticism is way more important than height

I’m new here but wow what a get for Siddle. Arkansas was recruiting him as a transfer as well

https://twitter.com/transfertapes/status...00965?s=21
Plays like a big guard in the post some. Siddle just got himself a helluva player. Shot 43% from 3 but did not take many attempts

When that type of player becomes available you sign them up. ROY from almost any DI conference is a big pickup. Siddle building for the future. Regardless of what happens this year, that sets us up with a solid core next year and we will have Pridgen for 3 years.

And Hoops, why not wait until he's coached his first game before jumping off a cliff?

Repeat after me THERE IS NO CACOK ON THIS TEAM. He was a generation al talent. He was essentially Rodman on the boards. His rebounding made up for a ton. But let’s not act like there wasn’t serviceable big men on that team that played a part, because there was.

Bricks- sorry I don’t agree with the he took over a “bad team”. He took over a team that was badly coached. And improved dramatically under Burke. And with the talent he has added, he should be able to compete at the top of the league. All he needed was a few pieces to do so, and this far he’s neglected those needs. After all the wishful thinking the last three years it just seems like many on this board did not learn a lesson. No free passes until they are earned.

If you think we’re a Linssen post presence away from winning the league in 2021, I guess we just see the team differently. I do wish you’d be able to see what Siddle has done this recruiting cycle out of a pass/fail binary, but that may too much to ask.

I’ll leave it at this: I’m excited about the talent he’s brought in this class, I expect improvements next season (top 6 in the league and 14-17 wins), i want a big or two in the next cycle, and I hope Dodd stays.

Ahhh. My man. I didn’t mean to make that post so directional at you. That wasn’t my intent. I apologize if it came off that way. I shouldn’t have used “You...”

Anyways, I know this is the minor opinion but I want to see if Siddle can COACH. We all know he’s a daggum good recruiter. We also know he’s selling the Keatts years because that’s the last time we had strong success, and he was on staff. I get that. There’s nothing wrong with that.

However, I want to see if HE can coach. That is a large unknown to me right now, and it’s the single biggest factor to if we will be successful in year 2, 3, or more into his time as HC. He’s able to recruit off the past right now. But if we don’t have a successful season next year... that recruiting gets a lot harder and players start seeing through the foggy glass. It’s the same thing that happened the last 3 years.

Lastly, I’m optimistic for him as HC. Hell, I’m excited about it. I’m just not going to pretend to be blind to the fact that we just said “No thanks” to a interm coach who we saw could win. He coached a relatively underwhelming team to wins regularly. A team that it appeared had lost hope, vision, and will to compete. He reignited that and proved he could win. Siddle will have to prove he can coach and win. I hope he can.

I'm not sure. I was told that it may not be the basketball that is the problem. It's possible he is just not happy here. And, if that's the case, I don't know how you make that better. I'm not sure enough about that to say that is for certain the problem. One thing so far that is in our favor is he has not entered the transfer portal.
