Coastal football schedule is a joke
2015 schedule is: 9/5 at Furman, 9/12 at SC St, 9/19 vs WIU, 9/26 vs Bryant, 10/3 vs Alabama A&M, 10/10 vs Presbyterian, 10/17 BYE, 10/24 at Monmouth, 10/31 at Charleston Southern, 11/7 vs Gardner Webb, 11/14 vs Kennesaw State, 11/21 at ‪Liberty. Could they make it any easier to get at least 10 wins? Not one FBS school.

RE: Coastal football schedule is a joke
Coastal's coach doesn't like playing FBS games because it doesn't help them get an at-large FCS bid to playoffs and they could just have players get injured during the game. His comments came a couple years ago after getting demolished by South Carolina late in the season.

RE: Coastal football schedule is a joke
Good find. Coastal is making a big mistake. They should have learned the lesson from LU from years of playing a weak schedule to not be invited to the playoffs. Looks like LU is their toughest game this year. No FBS teams and LU has 2. Go figure.

With that schedule they should come to Lynchburg undefeated.

The Big South, with the exception of LU and Coastal, is such a weak conference that a team must schedule better OOC games to have any relevance and consideration.

Charleston Southern is usually on the brink of having a quality squad. They beat Liberty last year.

I wouldn't label Liberty as such a strong program. The won the conference bid to playoffs once since the Big South got an auto bid. That doesn't exactly scream FBS ready.

I think the Big South ranked second best in FCS last season?

That's true but removing LU and CCU and it drops big time.

So what do you see that needs to happen for LU to be FBS ready? What would LU need to do to be considered a strong program if a single year of success if insufficient? What would have to happen for LU to FBS ready?

A long history of playoff appearances/beating FBS teams would help.

Ditto. Look at App State and Georgia Southern. Heck, even Old Dominion in their very brief FCS history blows us out of the water.

The Sun Belt may be the last invite for an FCS school and look at the last two move ups they invited. I'm guessing they'll want to invite a school like those and that means we need to make history by making the playoffs, winning playoff games, and beating FBS schools. Keep our attendance high (and climbing).

It appears that I'm a little more optimistic about LU than you and that's okay. We just disagree. Would it be great for LU to have Coastal's past few years of playoffs appearances and wins via an invite and conference automatic bids. Sure.

There is also merit when a team has struggled and finally figures it out. Take the Boston Red Sox as an example. Until they finally beat the Yanks in division play and won a WS they were perpetually the bride's maid for many years not getting to the playoffs and passing the Yanks. Even when Fisk waved his homer fair and Bucker had his through-the-legs error, the BSox were perceived as today's Cubs. Not lovable losers like the Cubs but a team that could not get over the hump (mostly the Yankeees).

But when they finally beat the Yanks and won the WS things changed. For sure LU is at a cross roads. If they suck this year and lose games they should win, it will be a huge setback. With the team returning, with a senior quarterback, one can get excited about LU's potential this year. Am I being optimistic and hopeful. Sure. Do I feel this time it's different yes I do. I'll willfully eat lots of crow if I am wrong. For some reason I feel the team has turned the corner and will be better this year and in the future. Time will tell

Coastal football schedule is a joke
CCU schedule might be a joke, but their football team has proven to be no joke. Their coach has a plan and knows exactly what he's doing. They have been a very successful team nationally in recent years.

The Big South is a better conference now than it gets credit for. Yes, historically it has been bad. But it is much more competitive now, even teams not named LU or CCU. That competition will only increase with more teams added.

The current CCU Administration did not choose last year's or this upcoming year's schedule. Some outgoing Administration, at the time, saw the writing on the wall, and put the screws to CCU - to put it lightly.

Bodoyle, welcome to the LU board.

Coastal and LU have been the two teams that have given credibility to the Big South. You have a good foundation with football, basketball and baseball. LU needs to be pushed to get better and Coastal has been that one team to consistently challenge LU. It's how good teams get better.

Thanks for the welcome. Not sure how the hell I signed up in 2009..

Last year was a down year for sure. This year's team does not have a star on it, but a ton of guys who know their role, and do it well. 5-0 vs ACC/SEC (NC State, UNC, Clemson, Ga Tech, South Carolina.

That was for any of the CSN boards, Bob. And for the record, I think Furple will be back stronger this fall. For the sake of the SoCon, they better be.

Wow, 5-0 against ACC. That is very strong. If you're not ranked yet I'll bet you will be soon.

Last year was an anomoly for the Chants. They are typically strong and we have every reason to believe it will come down to one of us winning the league again this year.
