Why would yall do that? The Cajuns failed to get timely hitting, going 4-22 with runners on base and 2-11 with runners in scoring position. Should be a good one today and Sunday will be batting practice. Lol

Every time a thread mentions ULL with a UL reference, it gets derailed by LT fans.

I could understand UL-Monroe fans being upset with the UL reference for ULL but for the life of me, I do not get the LT objection. LT has it's own unique name that no one else is trying to infringe on. What's the big deal for anyone other than ULM?

Now if I were a ULL fan I would prefer the seldom used Oooo La La, but that's just me.

I really don't mind that we used our Sunday starter. We play the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday, so we can use him for that game.

What if UTEP decided it was going to only use the abbreviation UT and dropped the EP city identifier? You think that would fly for more than two seconds?

We've been over this before04-chairshot, but University of Louisiana System rules (and this is the system Louisiana Tech is in) explicitly state that any school that decided to change its name to the "University of Louisiana at (fill in the blank)" MUST use the "at (fill in the blank)" for its name. No "University of Louisiana", and no "Louisiana" (implies "University of Louisiana"). And for abbreviations the rules explicitly state that "UL" must be followed immediately by the letter of the city identifier in all uses.

Don't buy the inaccurate ULL argument about it being to use the illegal terms for its athletic teams. The System rules explicitly state that the naming convention rules also apply to athletics.

Either support Louisiana Tech on this issue or stay out of it.

And to get things back on track...nice win Roadrunners.

Amen. It never starts with UL folks objecting to someone calling us ULL or UL-L.

And almost every other state has a ???? State University, as well as a University of ????, and also a lot have a ???? Tech University, and they all seem to be doing just fine; certainly none have this crazy name issue. But not in the great state of Louisiana. It's incredibly petty.

All 3 of LSU, LTU and UL should stand up for each other (and UNO, if it survives), as we need to reinforce that we are the only designated state-wide schools. Doing such would do absolutely no harm to ltu......and certainly none to lsu.....in fact, we could all benefit from it.

Again...just plain wrong.

"University of (insert state name)" implies that school is the flagship school of its system. University of Louisiana System rules explicitly state that there is no flagship university. That is part of the reason the "at (city name)" is mandatory. Only a designated flagship can be referred to without "at" or a city identifier in its abbreviation.

If you don't like the rules, get them changed. Until then, don't break them.

because by calling themselves University of Louisiana they are trying to misrepresent themselves as a flagship

There is some debate over whether the university should be called UNR or Nevada.[6] However, some claim that since it was the first university in the state, its historic name should be its official designation. Like Nevada, many other multi-campus public university systems such as the University of Michigan use this method. Similar to this the University of California's flagship campus of UC Berkeley is referred to as "California" or "Cal", but only for sporting purposes. Several of the university's institutions retain the institution's traditional name, "University of Nevada," including the alumni association, the student government, and the athletics department (which refers to the university's teams simply as "Nevada," a practice held since the late 19th century). When the University plays in sports against in-state rival, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the school's name is decided by the home team. When the game is held in Reno, it reads UNLV vs Nevada, however, if held in Las Vegas it reads, UNLV vs UNR. At the 2012 rivalry game at UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, the score board read Rebels vs. Pack, completely avoiding the UNLV vs. Nevada (or UNR) debate.

I wanted to add that to my post that I know I will get blasted from the ltu folks for making it, but I won't respond. Responding to them would just become another name thread, and that's certainly not needed.
I stand by my post 100%; we can only hope that more folks see the rationale of Miners comments above.

I basically agree with this, but what is UNO's claim to statewide flagship status? I see it as basically on par with ULM or NSU. I say this as someone who took classes at UNO, went to basketball games during the Tim Floyd era, etc.

It's a nice sentiment, but I'm not sure 2015 UNO lives up to it.

They are statewide per the board of regents, in 2010. It is highly doubtful that would be the case if they were doing it today.
