Someone tell me how LT signs 23 recruits, but supposedly only lost 11 seniors. Just curious. Not smack. What happened?

Sorry we have dreams of going undefeated or close to it every year instead of the standard 8-4 record like Rice.

Am I happy about playing Norfolk State, No but I'm not going to sacrifice a 6th home game because of it either. And if WVU would have continued the series to play us, they would have been playing in Huntington this year and we would have played their last year
Rice does need the money. It's no secret that G5 programs are struggling, especially the private ones. Playing schools like Texas and Baylor every year is also attractive to recruits, who want to play some big names. Playing a tough OOC schedule also prepares our team for conference play. Finally, going 12-0 means nothing it you didn't beat anyone decent to get there.

What recruits is Rice recruiting when they are usually either middle of the pack and lower in the conference rankings

I believe they had something like 35 seniors in 2013 and probably didn't fill all of the 85 scholarships

You can have up to 25 new counters and 85 total scholarships

Our recruits are criminally underrated. I guess every school can argue that. We've all experienced the recruit who is a 2* with your team, but a 3* if he flips to a then BCS/now P5 team. I'm not saying that we are regularly signing 4* recruits because we are not. The main reason our recruits are underrated is because a majority of them are not physically mature/ready to play early. The Rice way is to take 1*/2* recruits and develop them into 3*/4* players. For example, Luke Wilson, current TE for the Seattle Seahawks was an unheralded and under recruited prospect out of Cananda that signed with Rice. Today, he is a game changing 6-5/250 4.5 player. Our staff is along the mold of Gary Patterson's staff in that they excel in finding players with little to no fanfare. But what really marks their strength of recruiting is the ability to project their abilities with proper development. Now TCU is on a whole 'nother level in this aspect, but that is our approach. So that is how Rice went from middle of the pack recruiting rankings in 2009/2010/2011 to contending for CUSA 2-3 years later.

The tricky part is ensuring that your player development and reps prepare your underclassman for the speed of the game when you lose a bunch of seniors. We are going to have some questions on defense this Spring/Fall.

It shows we lost close to that but several were dropped before the end of the season. We also didn't have a full 85 from what I can remember(Coaching Change)

WKU is the clear favorite to win the East and league. Signing 12 juco's may hurt them down the road.
MT looks to be very good as well.

Rice and LT look to be tops in the west.

Marshall will have to play very well and stay healthy to have a shot. Jmo.

I would put Marshall and MT neck and neck. MT returns their QB which is a plus but they slid that latter part of last year. I just don't know about them at this point.

Rice brings the most back and should be preseason pick. Tech not far behind and neither is UTEP or USM.

La Tech and Rice in the West with UTEP as a wild card.

Marshall, WKU in the East with MTSU as a wild card.

Marshall is the team to beat until proven otherwise.

It's called "Louisiana math". I would explain it to ya, but we don't want our CUSA brethren to adopt the same successful recruiting principles. 05-stirthepot

.
This fall WKU should field it's best team ever if everything falls into place they could end up being ranked. With that being said it is just February and a lot can change by August.
Also with a fairly tough schedule and most league teams expected to be better a .500 record is not far fetched. We all will just have to wait and see.
Everyone expects great things in February except maybe Charlotte which is just getting started at the top level. I expect Marshall will be right there in the east along with Middle and maybe even FAU.

Love this logic. It worked well last year too. I hope everyone can keep the momentum going with Marshall schedule smack this season. Please, roll out the famous, "We could go undefeated with that schedule".

I would prefer you wait until we beat you by 25 points or more before using it. It brought such hearty laughs last season.

We can't wait to destroy Louisiana Tech first on October 31st in Rice Stadium.

A high school team could go undefeated with that schedule. A bad one.

That's what has happened the last 2 times we have played - I think the game next season will be a good close game for a change

Didn't we destroy Rice last year, one of those teams on our crappy schedule, Rice didn't even have 100 yards of total offense until midway in the 4th when we put in our 2nd and 3rd string defense.
