Dion Ray – Louisiana (QB)
Jalen Thompson – South Alabama (CB)
Devin Papenheim – Appalachian State (DL)
Tyler Bass – Georgia Southern (K)
Warren Wand – Arkansas State (RB)

Thoughts?

I'd be surprised if Ray is the surprise from this Cajun signing class. I'd say it would either be one of the two WR's we signed (Michael Jacquet, Gary Haynes) who both are big play capable or the DL (Mario Osborne) as those are the positions where we lost some starters. We're also going to have a new kicker, but I'm wary of picking a kicker as your most impactful player as a freshman.

As for Bass, well if there's one FBS team where a good kicker would not only be appreciated but be a hero too it's Georgia Southern.

I can't believe he won't redshirt. He has great length but he only weighs 225 or so. With the depth on the line and a couple of redshirt freshmen stepping up, I can't see him as the impact freshmen.

I believe our freshman kicker will be an impact player. As long as he can kick it over the center's head, it will be an improvement.

that reminds me of a story when I was in HS. I was a kicker, and the long snapper was talking crap during practice. sent a line drive right into his backside. it was funny as hell. dude was pissed.

What on earth do you have to talk crap about being a long snapper?

He probably played other postition(s) as well. I wouldn't think that many high schools have players specializing in long snapping.

Edwards is 6'3", 330 lbs. a 3star with great power and speed, expected by everyone who has seen him to be an impact player, but as CatMom said, looks like he won't qualify and will have to go the Juco route. I believe that on signing day, he signed with us and Blinn Juco (College Station).
And most likely, if he goes juco and gets his grades in order, you won't see him again.
Last I heard he only needs a passing SAT or ACT score. How many opts to take those are left for this school year?

I am excited to see our new kicker too. We lost 2 games last year due to very makeable but missed FGs and coupled that with a missed XP to miss tieing Sou. Miss...01-lauramac2

The kicker will be nice, but our biggest frosh impact player will be Jesse Lipitrot. Day one starter at corner.

Not sure if it was done with this intent, but generally, preseason all conference teams usually pull from the teams that are expected to be at the top of the conference. Fuel To The Fire

Impact Freshmen

Isn't this the height of optimism for a pre-season thread?

The 'sure-things' don't seem to pan out but that hard working kid
on the corner of the field no one's looking at, that's your star.
