The Cajun softball team pushed their ranking up two spots to No. 7 in this week’s USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll. The Cajuns’ new ranking comes following a four-game sweep in the Louisiana Classics.
Despite maintaining a top 10 ranking in dominating fashion, Cajuns coach Michael Lotief said he saw a lot over last weekend’s games that need to get better.“We need to get to work to where we want to be,” Lotief said. “It’s like preseason football. We’re learning a lot about ourselves in these first few games. I going to nitpick this thing, and I won’t have to dig deep to do it. (The team will) see it. I see it. I see it every day.”Louisiana pitching was dominant over the weekend, holding opponents to no runs over the four games using 4 different pitchers.
USA fell from #23 to #24 after going 3-2 on the week. The 2 losses were 1 run losses to #3 Alabama and Eastern Kentucky with their wins coming over Liberty, McNeese St, and a big comeback win over Houston.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning to Houston on Sunday, the USA softball team recorded three singles to load the bases, and after Jaguar freshman second baseman Kaleigh Todd cut the deficit in half with an RBI groundout, sophomore Amanda Minahan delivered a two-out, two-run walk-off double to left field, securing a 3-2 USA victory in the final contest of the 2015 Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala.
