Funny how they didn't release the overall price tag. I have no idea how you can afford I'm guessing about a $5-10 million soccer stadium that will probably only draw 500ish per game but a $40 million football stadium with a 30-35,000 capacity is completely ludicrous.

Overall pricetag is 4.5 million. 1.5 million donated from BBVA compass. The rest of it was allowed by the BOT so that they can point to something and say they're helping UAB athletics and in general.

We average around 1,000 for soccer and have one of the best programs in the country. I understand the anger surrounding football, but directing it towards our soccer program doesn't make any sense. They don't play on the same field, and the shouldn't ever play on the same field. West campus has been outdated for a while now, and this will only help the program.
We all know the issues surrounding football being cancelled, and we don't need to screw with our other programs in trying to make arguments.

The UA BOT are currently under a microscope and SACS is visiting soon. I think those reasons in combination with the fact that 1) the stadium was largely funded by BBVA Compass and 2) soccer is not a sport of significant interest for UA are additional factors in why this project was approved.
This will be a tremendous soccer venue, and it is a well-deserved project. The soccer programs at UAB have been among the most consistent on a national level for years.

Interesting development. I would not be surprised to also hear about a USL franchise landing in Birmingham.

They shouldn't sell themselves short with an USL club. NASL would be a much better choice and more geographically sound.
