#1 in the nation in assists per game. I don't know enough about the players on the other teams to say where they should rank, but knowing Tech, Speedy Smith should at least be above Appleby.

I tried putting one in. I was thinking the freshman lee but he doesn't have great numbers. They have like 7 guys avg 6 points and up. Nobody is standing out.

Just FYI.....LA Tech's Alex Hamilton, is Tech's leading scorer, and has already been named CUSA "Player of the Week" 3 times this season.

You can make a case for all of our top 4. Speedy is our all-time leading assist and steal guy. Nobody has mentioned kyser yet. He leads the team in rebounds is top 10 in the nation in shot blocks and is our all-time leading shot blocker.

That's what makes this team so fun. Seems somebody different is stepping up every night. This is the most unselfish team I've ever watched, and that's amazing given how young it is.

They are fun to watch and the scary part is that they a ton of room for improvement. They have just tap into their potential, just wait until it all comes together. Whatever conference we end up in, UAB is going to be a handful to handle.

Top 10 C-USA Basketball Players
I'm fine not having one dominant player. Quite a few of ours guys have that potential but the fact they don't have to be and aren't being selfish is incredible, especially given the youth.
Our OOC put us in a hole for reaching the Top 25 this season, but I am willing to bet UAB returns to the Top 25 next season.
I don't buy the discussion that if CUSA kicks out UAB that players will leave either. They would have to sit out a year and guys don't want to do that often anymore. Especially when they see our current success.
What's more, these guys committed to play for UAB and our coach. If Haase is here next year, I'm confident everyone will return (except our lone senior). If coach leaves, all bets are off though.

I think we underestimate the value of our assistants. Brown came because of them, and he had to sit out a year. When is the last time we didn't lose a player from one year to the next. It seems like there is always one or two.(Frazier, q, soko/Harrison just off the top of my head in the past three offseasons)

RE: Top 10 C-USA Basketball Players
A couple of Rice guys are making a strong run for all-conference honors too in senior Seth Gearhart and sophomore Marcus Jackson. Gearhart now has 30-point-plus games in two of the last three games (31 at Western Kentucky and 32 last night vs. UAB - both games were Rice wins), and Gearhart is the only CUSA player now with two 30-point games in conference play.
Jackson had an off-scoring night last night but still leads all conference underclass guys in scoring in conference games only.
They're the main reasons Rice is now .500 in conference play (along with Max Guercy, their tiny 5-9 point guard). If either Gearhart or Jackson finish strong, I'd say either is deserving of 2nd-team all-CUSA honors. Especially if Rice can finish .500 or better in conference play.
Mike Rhoades is also a strong candidate for coach of the year. It's amazing he's getting a group of 8 player (two non-scholarship guys) to play as hard and well as they have been playing in conference play.
