We've got to expect a drop-off in basketball next year but we will not be horrible as long as Mark Byington is coaching.

ULM only played 1 senior. Expect next year's team to be even stronger.

Box score lists 4,138 in attendance. Cajundome holds 11,550 for basketball. Did that place look 36% full or does the claim that the Cajuns only count tickets for attendance not 100% true...?

I estimated it looked 25% full. But to be fair there is no way to tell on TV and everyone counts tickets sold. I can imagine that their fan base is very disappointed and people are staying away in droves.

Terrible tipoff time of 1:00, a multitude of other events taking place, including Mardi Gras parades, led to what I would say was about 3,500 actual butts in seats. I was one of 3 in my group.

The subpar season in general has also contributed to an overall lack of enthusiasm.

Losing the most competitive and likeable player to ever play in the Belt, also makes this Cajun team very uninspiring to watch in person. The current group lacks an edge and is very matter of fact in the way they play.

Reflection of the coach I suppose.

Plus we have another senior who is a starter (Williams, a former SBC player of the week) but he has not played the last two games because of an injury. HC Keith Richard is undefeated at Georgia Southern's Hanner Fieldhouse, going 4-0 as a player and now 1-0 as a coach.

We will be marked men in football, getting everyone's best shot. I doubt we are horrible in basketball as long as Byington is around. I love CY, but Byington is just a much better fit for us. If he finishes this season in a big way I hope he stays around. Hanner is definitely not going to help keep a coach around if someone else comes calling.

Very true. This last stretch of the regular season is going to be fun to watch, too.

The GS/ULM game was one of the most exciting bball games I have watched in a long time. I came away very impressed with ULM. Their players played with confidence, made huge shots when at times it looked like the game may be going against them and maintained their calm through it all. Unlike some other team who has recently been to Hanner (one from Atlanta) ULM's players were not constantly trash talking to the crowd.

I will say this-- if GS can't win the Sun Belt this year I hope ULM does. I know they have endured alot with their basketball program over the last few years, and I am sure it is very rewarding to their fans that they have a team right now who is certainly capable of winning the Belt. We know the feeling well here at GS. Whatever happens the rest of this season it has been a treat to see us actually play winning basketball here in Statesboro for a change.

That was an excellent basketball game to watch. Luckily I thought your production online was not bad at all and was a reasonable price to watch. Maybe it was different the night of the Cajun game, because I didn't see any problems. Thank you for the compliments of our team, as we are so excited for our basketball team to finally be competitive again. We use to be a very strong proud program and Richard has brought that back to ULM. What I like about our team is basically what you saw. They don't trash talk, they don't play street ball, they are very long, they play smart and under control, and definitely represent our university well. They have a very workman, blue collar attitude and only get better and gain more confidence after every win and best of all have won the academic award the past few years and have the highest APR in the conference. I for one see I very friendly rivalry with GS developing over the years and a very competitive one at that. I have much respect for your program and our basketball teams are competing for the top of the conference and our football team played you as well as anyone in conference this year. I would be happy for you guys to win as well if it isn't us. 04-cheers

Your football team back in November impressed me alot. With nothing to play for and no bowl chance at all your team came into Statesboro and played us down to the last play. That speaks volumes to me about the type of football team you had.

ULM and GS are similar in a number of ways. Neither of us are swimming in money and we both have to really stretch dollars in athletics.
