In 23 games we had less than doubled digit assts in 15 and one where we only had 2! That be speaks of no offensive team play.

In Murphy's now 4th season here, he has never made low post scoring a priority. Why? Because he would rather have the 7foot center clog the middle on defense and leave him out of the offense.

I have seen enough and I feel it is time to reevaluate the direction of EMU basketball.

As Izzo stated, we have a wishbone gimmick strategy.

You say this after basically every loss. If we had a center that could score, we'd be giving him the ball more. We don't.

If we had any consistent center play we could have beaten BSU, MIA, (maybe) Kent, and Ohio (today).

RE: GameWeek: @Ohio
Ohio has been up and down this year, but pretty good at home during the MAC season. A 3 point loss to them on their court is on par with the better teams in the league.

So no need for the hyperbole on this loss.

On the other hand, EMU is ONLY 3-7 in the MAC with some real ugly losses. They are clearly underperforming overall. And did so last MAC season. I am open to the debate about what exactly is going wrong.

But as Steve pointed out, the remaining schedule is home heavy and has a couple winnable road games. I am not expecting this, but a 6-2 run to finish the season is very possible.

Not what we were hoping for, but hang in there as it should be a fun finish.

You're right. Ohio isn't very good. EMU has been losing a lot (3-7 MAC) to teams that aren't very good.

Yes, and that is consistent with my point that our teams depends SO heavily on our better guard players. W/out Talley and Lee in there, we're not a strong team at all.

I am by no means a basketball fan or aficionado (but I am an EMU alumus). In fact, I wrestled in high school because I couldn't shoot the ball. I am a facts oriented guy and what it comes down to for me is that our basketball team isn't being coached properly. Lesser talented teams find ways to beat EMU. EMU does not find ways to beat more talented teams. It looks like Murphy doesn't know how to make appropriate adjustments as the game is being played while the other coach either has a game plan to beat EMU or makes the necessary adjustments, in game, to win. More than any other sport basketball is fluid and a lot of points can be scored in a very brief amount of time. That's why proper game management, being able to adjust to what is being thrown at you, is so important. EMU should have 3 to 4 more conference wins if the proper in game adjustments had been made.

Not sure I could quantify how many more wins EMU should have, but your post is 100% spot on otherwise.

Luckyone might have a point. Just as EMU isolates for the guards. You can isolate for Samuels to get the ball. What he does with it at that point is all on him. I don't feel like I have seen EMU try this but a few times- with some success mind you. That is a big boy with a awkward but decent version of a hook shot.

Its a single cam with no replay options but the quality of the feed is usually good. Its Sibs weekend on campus so barring a blizzard or another knife attack I think attendance could top 10K. Should be a good game day atmosphere, hopefully the Bobcats will be able to put up more of a fight this time.

Thanks again for the link. That was actually a very crisp picture and the announcers were solid- with just a little bias. Nice win!

that was fun. Man, did Raven Lee have a half or what? That was kung fu crazy. Two guys fouled out trying to guard him, incredible performance.

Fun is when you up numbers like that and win. Today it was just a waste.

well, to be honest I say it was fun with a touch of sarcasm because EMU's defense is exhausting. I'm worn out and I didn't even play. 04-cheers

Murphy sure likes to keep us and his players guessing regarding starting lineups. I mentioned this in a previous post but we really don't have an inside post game, a center like Mike Edwards would make a world of difference in terms of keeping the defenses honest.

From other posts here, I gather that KWard was limited due to injury and Ray Lee was limited due to a flu. (33 [points in 21 minutes, though?)

But the others in the rotation are a bit curious. In particular
**Jodan Price starting after dwindling minutes- but he had a good game.
**Samuels/ Ajayi reduced to 14 minutes combined. Whereas previous Ohio game they had 32 minutes combined. Baffles me why you would change up the strategy so much from one of the top performances of the season.

Murphy is either still perplexed on strategy for this squad or he is still playing too much with the reward/punish thing. Either way, this is very frustrating to follow.

Murphy should be a baseball coach since he likes to use the "hook".
