I just saw it today for the first time. Sure does come across as an act of apprehension. Hope that no one in their right minds fall for this crap.

No one in their right mind will, but a few hundred thousand mindless drones will see the crimson mark and instinctively blurt out a R*** T***. This will perpetuate the Bammer's sense of ownership over UAB.

Great observation the message is UAB and UAH is part Of the Alabama University systems. We raised them, have done everything to make them happy, and we don't know why they are saying all those mean things about Alabama.

For many in Alabama, this is "preaching to the choir" because they only think of Bama as a football team (hence, the "A" logo in the commercial) loosely connected somehow to a university. They don't wear all that crimson gear because they support the UA Law School or Engineering School and so forth. The BOT has always cast the UA BOT vs UAB struggle as "our team" vs "their team" which is all many in the state see or can comprehend.

They see the Bama Athletic program as flush with so much money they have to invent novel ways to spend it all so they don't have to give more than a pittance to the university's academic side. All this while the academic side must increase "costs of attendance" (tuition + all other costs) by almost 50% since 2008 making it even less likely the ordinary Alabama citizen's child can attend unless they are a star quality athlete (Do you think that may help explain why the increasing majority (3/5 or so) of freshmen lately have been out of state students?).

I saw one of these commercials last night on ESPN. I could laugh at it if it didn't make me so angry. It eminded me of one of the Veridian Dynamics commercials from Better Off Ted.
