Whole house fan
Do any of you guys have or installed a whole house fan? I was thinking about doing this bc I've heard it's cheaper to run than the AC during the summer. I wanted to see how effective it is.

RE: Whole house fan
They were very popular back in the day. Are you talking about the ceiling mounted unit that open up
like giant exhaust and moves hot air out?

Think it'd save money as opposed to running the AC?

2 story house? Especially with open loft area? Probably so. Have had multiple houses with high ceilings, open a ladder to paint or install a ceiling fan.....it is 5-10 degrees warmer
up there than floor level. In homes AC/Heat usually comes from floor vents unlike commercial office retail where it falls from ceiling grid. Most homes have 1 thermostat, put at 72 but is 80 upstairs, poor design, homes should have HVAC until for upstairs and another for downstairs.
Hard to push cool air up.

What is gross cost to install?

purchased and had mine installed for 800

They are great unless you live in an area with high humidity...make a everything in your house feel tacky. We only use ours a couple weeks each summer/early fall.
