RE: Article regarding OU and OK State on TX recruits over in-state (J. Dillon mentioned)
Living in Dallas, I can see this situation from the Texas point of view. In my neighborhood, I see more OU flags in front of the houses than any other school. OU almost has the same respect and presence here as any of the big Texas schools. In fact, I believe Norman is closer to Dallas than Texas Tech, A&M or UT and North Texas is where the best Texas high school football programs are located. So, it is almost like a state school here. When my grandson was picking colleges (he ended up at Baylor) I took him to OU and frankly, that was the school that impressed me the most. It is located in Norman, which is basically an Oklahoma City suburb. OU also offers in state tuition to Texas residents who meet certain high academic standards (as does Arkansas). At the University of Oklahoma main campus in Norman, out-of-staters accounted for 32 percent of undergraduate enrollment last year, and their tuition provided 16 percent of the primary budget. At Oklahoma State University, nonresident students made up 26 percent of the undergraduate student body and covered 22 percent of the costs. Most of these nonresident students come from Texas.
