RE: John DeFilippo
After being spurned By our previous head coach after two years from date of hire we should definitely consider someone who has ties to JMU so we do not repeat this cycle.

I think the DeFilippo ship has sailed. Since the prior opening he has risen in NFL coaching circles. It would be a step back to take this job now.

I disagree. Why limit your candidate pool? Get the best person to lead this program to FBS. Recruiting is the lifeblood.

Lovie Smith is now unemployed...

It's a shame that JMU didn't hire Flip two years ago when we had the opportunity and he really wanted the job. A certain BOV member basically made the decision not to hire him along with a diversity attorney who knows jack crap about athletics. Anyone with half a brain knew that Withers would use us and bolt at the first bigger opportunity he was offered. Flip would have won us another FCS title and then he might have listened to an offer from a program like UVA. Ship has definitely sailed this time around. Good luck with the new search JMU admins...

Nice post! The haters like Old Dawg don't understand that Flip is very well respected in the world of NFL decision makers. Flip will either be retained by the new Browns HC or he will land another OC job in the next two weeks. He is a proud JMU alum and will always love our school no matter how things went down when he wasn't hired after MM was fired.

Yup, that's me....olddawg the hater. Hope he lands on his feet, but he really needs to make his next choice wisely. He's served his time w/ dysfunctional organizations.

Perhaps he would be open to coaching one more dysfunctional program... His alma matar? Any chance he'd consider it given the news of EW leaving?

We are far from dysfunctional........

Agree..it looks like EW was the dysfunctional one.....there is a lot of pride and family left in that locker room.

I knew he would get at least one interview. It seemed reasonable enough.

@adamschefter
One day after meeting w/ Chip Kelly and Bills asst HC Anthony Lynn, per https://t.co/u5lATTsDik, 49ers meeting w/ Browns OC John Defilippo.

Pretty good company to be in.

I love Flip but it's a stretch to claim he would have won a title already. Remember there's no Vad Lee if there's no withers.

Think John is just saying JDF would not even entertain other offers until said time that JMU won a NC, and even then they would be P5 offers.

As long as he is successful, great! Especially since the Nerds have one in Pittsburgh.

We'll have a second soon. Keep hoping for a first. How's your HC search coming along?

Unlike your quest for an NCAA basketball bid and FCS championship, quite well - we are going to land a great coach.

Good grief. I like Flip too, but it's a given he would have won us a title?

A talking head on espn's NFL Insiders just suggested John DeFilippo as a Head Coach candidate for the San Francisco 49er's.

It shouldn't come as a big surprise but Flip will not be the next HC of our football program. Thanks for the positive messages about him and know that he loves our school.
