RE: "Shoot or Don't Shoot" - Civil Rights Activist Experiences Use of Force Training
My only thing is this. That training, only one was a no shot routine, but even that one the person was armed. Also, the training didn't have a no lethal option, moly the fire arm, where as most officer today carry tasers.
Given a taser option, this how it should be played. The first one the guy gain separation from the officer and duck behind the truck. Yes, in this the officer should draw his weapon and have it at the ready. The second should be a text book case for using a taser, that is what they made for in the first place. The 3rd round should be mixed, weapon and no weapon. Also at random the first should be a case of a unarmed person who's locked their keys in their car and an unarmed person casing cars as well. Not just the armed person casing the car and pulling a gun. Because that isn't what is going to happen every time out. At times it will the person locked out of their are or a dump crook that's unarmed. The officers need training for all types of cases they will see, not only the most dangerous. That kind of trying can lead to officers going to lethal force too quickly in a case where it isn't needed or going to too much force when defusing tension is what's needed.
