Cut me and I bleed Rocket midnight blue and gold, but I pretty much agree with adunifon's assessment in the first post. I'm not wearing rose colored glasses with this year's team. They are underperforming when they should be running away with the west this year. Players, coaches and even us fan's need to take the blame. Long season to go, still time to regroup and make a run. Still time to fix the problems and make a run for seeding and then the MAC tourney. Like last year seemed like we lost our mojo after Drummond's DUI, this year it's almost like loosing Dre and not having his mid year boost, has sent the team into a funk. Not that Dre ever played a second, but seems like we lost a bit of air out of our tires.

He would most likely have provided rest minutes and offense from a bench that can't seem to provide it. That would have been enough to beat WMU and CMU. But if wishes were horses.....

I've found that whining about those whining about the sports teams is much much more draining on a reader than just the whining about a sports team. The message board should be a place to post and read what others think...the good and the bad. It becomes ugly when somebody is offended because other posters aren't cheerleaders.

+1.

If there wasn't any whining on this board, there would be less conversation.

Rian Pearson's energy on both ends of the court has not been replaced; not by a long shot.

Completely agree with that statement. He was the one guy, who could drive the lane. He linked the front court, to the back court. He drew defenders away from players like Drummond and created lanes for Williams and Brown. Now all that is left, is a group of guys incapable of driving the lane, either due to ability or height. All they can do, is stand and stare at each other, unless they are in transition. Too bad Mosely isn't a little more experienced. I think he could be that type of player. IMO, they should start him in place of Drummond.

I was thinking it would be nice to bring Drummond off the bench. We get nothing from the bench offensively most games.

RE: State of the basketball program
I know I'm late to the conversation but after last night's loss, I can't seem to get behind this team at all.

Granted Kent State is 4-1 in the Conference, but the lack of leadership on this team and the uninspired play has me tuned out.

Yes, I know where the program has come from, and honestly, all the pre-season hoopla, the Coach K hoopla, had me really excited for what to come this year, or maybe its the 27 wins last year that I expected something great this year.

I'd take the Central loss, and maybe even the WMU loss, but this season already is becoming a failure and quickly.

Luckily, the next few games are winnable, but who knows which Rockets team shows up anymore. I'm not jumping off the bandwagon, if there is any wagon left truthfully.

Never would I have imagined we'd be 10-8 to start this season off. We're looking at a borderline .500 season now, with my hopes of winning the MAC title diminished. The MAC is a lot stronger this year with many talented teams so it's going to be even harder to win the league than it was last year. I'm very surprised to see the BG game is nearing a sell out with the way our team has been performing thus far. Who knows, maybe they can pull their heads out of their asses and make a strong run for the MAC crown.

No one better to start a run than against our biggest rival.

RE: State of the basketball program
Last night's loss to Kent was not a bad loss as you are going to lose some league games against "quality" teams on the road which Kent is one of them. What is most troubling were Coach K's comments on the radio after the game where he stated if Toledo would have showed the same effort against CMU and WMU as they did last night against Kent, they would most likely be 4-1 instead of 2-3. How you cannot be prepared to play hard in your first league game against CMU or "revenge" game against WMU leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Is it a lack of Leadership? Bad Chemistry? Overrated Talent? Coaching? A combination of all? While I still think the Rockets can make a run at the MAC Championship, they will need to figure things out in a hurry beginning Saturday night against BG!

Not sure I buy that.

No McCrae, Whittington, Pearson, Treadwell and Bob Christian. All 5 programs lost either studs, lynch pins or a capable head coach. All have taken a step back.

BG has step up some, NIU's shelves are more stocked than in the past and CMU is in the 2nd year of a new approach on how they play. EMU is proving that they needed the stiffs they had to make that 2-3 viable as they still cant score as of yet. BSU lost some senior experience in Bonds and Berry. Miami continues to struggle. Kent needs to extend their play for a full season to be considered "improved". Still inconsistent.

IMO a net loss for the conference. Just bunched more closely giving the appearance.

I think I can agree with the argument that while UT did not improve from last season (nor has EMU), others like BG, Central and Ball State have, while Buffalo and Western appear at this point to be perhaps as good as last season.

RE: State of the basketball program
Wmu lost no one besides their center. I mean we have been playing that same team for three years in a row it seems! I know we only lost Pierson and Smith but they were the glue with Juice to get Drummond and JD jelling. Now we have tallent and maybe the best player in the league but dont have an offensive map to go off of. Lots of 1 on 1 and the occasional fast break dunk. IMO not enough steals, not enough guys within 10 feet to rebound on offense. Too much standing around on offense. Booth needs plays set up for him to get the ball on the block, then have back side picks get drummond or JD open for put backs or dunks. More energy overall on defense. Some is coaching, some is the teams skill set specifically. Last year our guys had roles and they didnt have to come out of their comfort zone. Now we are learning the game again, and hopefully it isnt too late to turn it around. A big win in front of a big crowd would be huge Saturday. I have faith.

I enjoy reading the critical posts.
Its an opinion and usually people here make educated points.

But the complaining about posters being at all critical is far more tiresome to read.

Can I criticize your criticism of the critics? lol

I like our board more than most. Lots of different backgrounds and opinions. I know the posters that are always positive no matter what is happening are as annoying as the ones that don't give any credit where it is do. We have both types of posters on our board. I'm more the glass half full kind of guy, so I know I come off as a homer. I ain't changing.

In regard to this topic though, there should be lots of fans on the fence! Our team has talent and should be playing better than we have so far in MAC play. We've had games where we looked like a top 25 team (vs. Akron, Bucknell, VCU)! Keep the friendly discussions going in the mean time, but no need for total negativity... IMO if you want the coach fired right now... get a petition, show the signatures to MOB and maybe he will cut Coach K loose 5 games into MAC play...03-drunk
